View Full Version : What the h*ll is going on?!!
Veighen 03-28-07, 02:12 AM I'm sitting playing my computer game.. about 45mins after taking my prescribed dose of Adderall 15mg.
when my fingers start bothering me. ALOT!
They seemed to get hyper-sensitive to touching the keyboard. I cant stand the way it feels. So, i wash my hands and rubbing alcohol my keyboard and mouse....try again. NOPE!
I hate the feeling! Its such an icky, disgusting feeling driving me crazy! I have had this happen before.. but not as bad A quick cleaning of the keyboard usually did it.
Not this time... so in order to play my game I have about 4 fingers covered in bandaids.
Why is this happening? Is this a reaction from the Adderall? Why now?!
Anyone else have this?
thanks
- Frustrated Veighen
meadd823 03-28-07, 03:39 AM Veigan I have been on Adderall for many years now and I can't say I have ever had this happen. I have researched this by typing in sensitive touch with ADDerall in a search engine. Apparently it is not real common but it isn't unheard of Hwever it is a lot more common with higher doses or "alternative form of absorption" . . and those with BIP. . .. .which mean it probably can happen at lower doses ingested correctly, without BIP. . .probably worth mentioning to your doctor. . . . .can you stand to wear gloves?.
Veighen 03-28-07, 06:17 AM thanks for the quick reply.
Its strange.. I dont get it often. I have been on Adderall for over a month now and was prescribed 15mg 2x a day for awhile now.
Although, the past few days I have neglected to take it 2x a day like I was told to. I have only been taking it once a day (15) and before then I had actually had taken a small break off it (kept forgetting to take it) for about 3 days.
Could that be why? Kinda of like side effects again?
I do take it with water... and I even ate before taking them today. Not sure if this would make a difference. Also.. you mentioned BIP ... what is that exactly?
I have only had this happen 2-3 other times.. and it was pretty minor. It was just super sensitive to my keyboard... nothing else. It seemed to go away when I cleaned it.... however, not this time. It was very frustrating... I ended up with 4 fingettips with bandaids on it... and that helped.
Perhaps I was just hyperfocusing on it.... I know that before meds,... I would have a problem with recurrent sensations on my skin.
for example: a very light petting of my arm or leg with a rough finger over and over in the same spot.. would drive me nuts.. I cant stand to feel that.
Im assuming this is similar to that.
Sorry its soo long!
~boots~ 03-28-07, 11:21 AM hey V...I wish I could be there for you
xx
you seem to have all the cr*p delt your way regarding meds
xx
I hope you sort it soon..(can't have you not being able to type !!) :-)
could the adderall be causing ocd behavior?
danigus 03-28-07, 08:44 PM could the adderall be causing ocd behavior?
I know that I adderall definitely caused my OCD behavior to increase. In fact, I never even thought about possibly being OCD until I started taking the adderall. Now I know that I have actually been OCD my entire life. Thats why I was so depressed about being ADD and not getting anything done, because it would drive me crazy! I am not bad OCD where I need help from it, even though my boyfriend might disagree. I know it increased my OCD behavior so I'm sure it is possible that it does the same for others.
I don't take Adderall and I cannot stand sticky keys on a keyboard of any kind; used to have to wipe down the piano keys before I could practice. I assumed it was a sensory issue. Veighen what makes you think it's the medication?
Veighen 03-29-07, 06:17 PM I suppose I assumed it was the medication because I cant exactly remember if the last time my fingers felt extra sensitive was while I was on medication or not?
I remember having this problem.... Not very often.... but I guess I was wondering if the medication was causing me to hyperfocus on it... not being able to let it go as easily as I normally can.
Now that I am thinking about it.. .I do think it is a sensory issue. In fact, most of my family members have a similar problem when it comes to touch. (I suspect them to have ADD as well (innatentive, like me)
Thanks for all the replies... I keep a box of bandaids by my keyboard now. :p
windy mind 03-30-07, 04:57 AM Hey Veighen,
Yeah, I can relate to your experience. I just recenly switched to generic 20mg Barr. After couple hours my fingers start tingling and my little unnoticed scars are enhanced. My hands light up to a blushed red. Could be the blood flow or who knows. Which brand are you taking??
All the best!!
I don't get tingling, but I have heard of that as a side effect of Adderall. I guess my experience is more a tactically defensive thing.
Veighen 03-30-07, 02:02 PM ITs not like a tingling of any sort.. or poor blood flow.
Women could probably relate this example:
Say you have long finger nails.. and then one day you cut them all off. When u start touching things again with your finger tips.. its feel weird and extra sensitive because they havent been exposed since you have had nails.
So, yeah. My finger tips too sensitive. :p
Would you believe long nails drive me crazy - especially when typing or doing handwork?
danigus 04-01-07, 12:41 AM Yeah me too. I never have been able to wear long, fake nails especially. They will continuously bother me all day. I think it might be because I don't like change. Change bothers me.
LittlePrincess 04-02-07, 04:26 AM Imnapl and danigus.... SAME HERE with the nails. As soon as mine start to get long, I trim them immediately. My nails are very strong and grow very fast. I could have long nails quickly if I wanted. My mom thinks I'm crazy, since she has nails that won't grow, she says she'd kill for nails like mine. The grass is always greener, hmmm?
meadd823 04-02-07, 06:52 AM OKay ladies any one shave thier legs? I know some cultures don't do this. . but if you do I believe it would be the same difference.
I remember having this problem.... Not very often.... but I guess I was wondering if the medication was causing me to hyperfocus on it... not being able to let it go as easily as I normally can.
Now this makes sense. . . I used to think taking Adderall made me hungry but later found out it wasn't making me hungry because I did not get hungry if I took it within a short time after eating. What was happening was the Adderall was making me aware of my hunger. . . . .perhaps you are having a similar issue with stickiness.

Wow, that makes alot of sense. When I began Adderall I also felt starved half the time.. and now, as it wears off I am starving to death it feels like.. yet I am only half interested in most foods.
Some people with ADHD are notorious about forgetting to eat when it isn't scheduled into the day.
danigus 04-03-07, 11:22 PM I have never had a problem eating on adderall. I still love food but I see how people can forget to eat. When I am hungry it feels different than before. I am just glad I am not one of those people who say they absolutely hate food on adderall.
D.B. Cooper 04-04-07, 12:59 AM Sometimes amphetamines will cause latent OCDs to manifest which is exactly what you're describing. I think if it only happened once you may just ignore it and it might go away. A part of OCDs is giving it attention and allowing it to grow and become bigger and bigger untill it controls you.
If that doesnt work its time to see the doctor and you wont like what he has to say.
Veighen 04-04-07, 02:53 AM I know for myself, that I DO NOT have any OCD's. I understand how focusing on and giving attention to behaviours or feelings can make them bigger and more of a problem.
I have had situations where behaviours or feelings have surfaced, and, knowing they may become something more, I would forget about, or distract myself from it untill it passed.
Some examples: Panic attack (first one ever) after quitting Celexa (was on for a month before ADD was suspected) I happend to be at school, about ready to do a final exam and made myself throw my feelings aside after a brief 5 min refocusing.
Anxiety from being in a house for too long and going outside or into a stressful environment.....again forced it away and was fine. (drug related)
I think I was hyperfocusing on the sensitvity in my fingers at that time.

D.B. Cooper 04-04-07, 03:01 AM Or it was a weird panic attack, i have panic disorder and once in a great while ill fall into this sort of mindset where i obsess over every little physical discomfort "oh that strained shoulder muscle is clearly referal pain from a heart attack AHHHHHHHHHHHH TIME TO FREAK OUT"
