Ive read some post on here about ppl losing their meds, getting them stolen, etc and having a hard time filling their next script. How early is to early? I know its suppose to be 30 days but I usually always fill mine a day or 2 early and they have never said anything. Im going out of town and want to fill them before I leave, it will be 5 days before im "due". Do you think ill have a problem? Are some pharmacys better about it then others? Ive had them filled from pretty much everywhere, just depending on where i am when it comes time to fill it. Thanks for any input :>)

I don't think 5 days will be a problem. I think the earliest you can fill a renewal script is 7-10 days. I'm not 100% sure on that because it may be a little different for controlled meds.

I think the earliest I have been able to is about 3 days. Not sure...if you don't want to waste gas...call and ask? All they can say is no..and then tell you how soon they can do it...better than driving all over town...

Just a thought?

Just don't do what I did...leave one state..thinking you can get it filled at one somewhere else...umm no can do! Found that out the hard way....Fun Fun Fun on the road for 36 hours..between Ohio and Texas,,with 3 ADD kids, ADD DH driving..and a 60lb drooling Bulldog!

It varies per state from what I hear, in vermont, after you lose 2 prescriptions within a period of time it's bye bye for awhile. You get concerta and provigil for options.

I have had a problem with Walgreens telling me it was too early with another medication, an antidepresant I am taking for migraines. The neurologist told me to take two pills a night after the one wasn't working,so of course I am going to run out early.I quit seeing him and went back to regular doc. I had 5 refills on it so I didn't ask for a script for it. Uhh what a pain! They tell me "you should have 10 pills left" and looked at me like I was a druggie:o .I went 5 days without it and anyone on any kind of antidepressants shouldn't do that, not to mention all the headaches that came back. Finally after playing phone tag all week with the doc and the pharmacy. I picked it up and it was for 60 for a month.

It made me wonder if they do this to people who REALLY need medication like for diabetes or a severe health issue.Do they make them wait while it takes days to sort out everything? After this I can see them giving me problems with the Adderall, and I have to use them because no other pharmacy carries it in my town because it is a retirerment community.:( My doc told me to play with the dose and call him if I ran out early, I know I will. I will just have to go without for a few days because I don't want to chance it.

Oooo people need a clarification for the ADDed brain here. Now are these pharmacies saying no to the early re-fills out of some law or for insurance reasons. Insurance companies here in the south have been the most common reason early re-fill denials.

I have mine re-filled a week before I run out. They are apx 4 week apart now however after my first persecution I requested a re-fill a week early and had no problems. . . I paid cash no insurance company no hassles.

I have had my prescription stolen twice and had two weeks worth of medication burned once in about a seven year period of time. I have never had any problems getting my Adderall. Naturally because I do mine a week in advanced after the persecution was replaced I was requesting the next one three weeks later. I have never had any questions except one lady asked if I was using insurance when I said no she asked if I knew how much the med was I told her There was no further questions. Few people walk in expecting to pay $100.00 + for a prescription however I do.

Clarification...it's both for me.

Insurance only pays for 30days. I tried to get the 90day so there were no oopsies when I forgot to get them filled, and needed an appointment to get them....:faint:

And in Ohio you can't fill them in less than 30days either. I have had them 3 days in advance. I found out the 30day thing because , since Keenan I have the same script, I accidently pulled out his instead of mine once and his was just filled about 2 weeks before, and they were like nope...30days...:eyebrow:

I went to Meijer today and filled mine. I believe it was 5 days early and they didnt even question it. Not sure if I would try to fill any sooner then a week before the script is actually due though.

How do you even have a script a little early? Having a "refill" for Adderall is illegal if I'm not mistaken. They don't allow this due to abuse and the drug being a schedule II drug.

Well, my Dr. will give me enough scripts for 3 months. He dates the first one and then I can fill in the dates on the other 2. My next appt. will not be scheduled for another 3 months so I guess he figures if I did manage to find away to fill them all at once im still not getting anymore until my 3 months is up. Im guessing he also must have some trust in me but im sure im not the only patient that he does it for. It really helps me out though because it prevents me from having to pay an office visit every month as opposed to every 3 months.

Right Shane, that is how mine is. You can't get a conventional "refill" on the bottle. Most docs write them out for however long you need until you need to see them again. In my case, it's every 6 months now.

Wow. I thought that was illegal to do. To have anyone but the doctor write anywhere on the prescription. My doctor definitely does not do that. I've been able to get three months supply via mail but my doctor has never given me several scripts at once and let me fill in the date.

I now live in oregon but from michigan and 5 days ealry should not be a problem. If you were asking for like 2 weeks ealry then they would fuss but i would just be up front with them that you are going on vacation and you should not have any problems with it.

My doctor would just figure out the dates for those three months and fill it in for me ahead of time.

My husband has been told a few different things about refilling prescriptions, depending on the medicine.

With his Concerta, he *has* to wait until the 27th day to get another 30 days worth. No other options.
With his other meds, like Lovastatin for high cholesterol or Trileptal for bipolar, he has to wait until the 27th day if he wants his insurance to pay for it. But he can always pay cash to get it early if necessary, and then argue it out with the insurance company later.

So it looks to me like the stimulant medication is controlled through pharmacy rules, or possibly state or federal laws, that don't apply to the other kinds of meds. You're making me curious - I'll have to ask!
