View Full Version : Has anyone experience muscle tics after taking Adderall?
Nocturnal 04-01-07, 05:33 AM I notice I have muscle tics or involunteary muscle movements. Sometimes my head, sometimes it's random twitches on my arm, leg, chest, etc. I understand Adderall works with dopamine. I know dopamine is the chemical also involved with muscle movement? Something along the lines of people with Parkinsons disease have an issue with dopeamine that is why they have those constant shaking like Muhammed Ali.
Anyhow, if anyone can share if they also have tics and if they have gone away after stopping Adderall or what they did to make them go away.
Surely yes, I should talk about this with my doctor and I will bring it up. In the mean time though, I'd love to hear from anyone else who has experienced this before.
spunkysmum 04-01-07, 03:54 PM I hadn't thought of it, but I have been having muscle twitches lately - but teeny-tiny muscles, like in my upper lip.
optimum00 04-01-07, 04:01 PM It is a normal side effect, and it is really norepinephrine that controls the muscle tics.
Nocturnal 04-01-07, 04:03 PM Sorry I knew that. It was one of the many receptors or chemicals floating around within the brain lol.
berryblast 04-02-07, 11:47 AM I was actually just going to post about this...yes, for me it's usually little muscles. Lately it's been the little toe on my left foot, if it's at rest for a while it starts twitching, kinda funny.
jawglasswell 04-02-07, 02:18 PM Yes, this happens to me too. Magnesium helps for me.

Really? Interesting. Is this a single Magnesium pill you take or is it included in some type of multivitamins?

hey, same here...lots of tics...atleast till i started taking magnesium...
no, not the ones in multivitamins...just any walgreens or CVS magnesium supplement...
optimum00 04-04-07, 01:06 PM Buying the common magnesium supplements at walmart, walgreens, etc etc is a waste of money. They contain MgO which has 22% bioavailability... so if you like not absorbing stuff, that product is for you :/
EYEFORGOT 04-04-07, 03:03 PM If I remember correctly, taking a calcium/magnesium combo supplement helps absorb it better.
My nutrtionist friends have nothing but criticism for generic/Wal-Mart brand vitamins, they believe the quality is too low. It's more affordable, which I think is the "I'll settle for it since it works well enough" side of the argument.
Hope it works for you. :)
I notice I twitch right before I fall asleep. I think it's myself falling asleep then twitching back awake.

So, just take more.
