There are plenty, depending on what your doctor thinks is best. :)

great, thanks. i just wanted to know something before i asked.
i don't want my dr. to think, that i think, meds will solve all my problems. but i've been dealing w/ this for a long time, and i know it's something i can't entirely change

on my own. and when it hits me, it's really hard to work around it.

I take alprazolam, generic xanax, it is in the benzodiazapine class of drugs. They can be addicting-but I have been on it since april 05 and only take it as needed and have never used all the refills allowed.

There are situations in my life that trigger major panic attacks and this is a sanity-shall we say saver? Today I have not needed to take any at all.

Take care and keep a record of your panic attacks so you can see what triggers them-knowing that helps in many ways. Plus, a good counselor will really help you work through the causes so it is not so bad.

I agree with C~F about talking to your doctor, but just for your information I take Adivan as needed, just a tiny dose. It helps ease the jitters and that paralysing feeling that anxiety causes.

Good luck and keep us posted as I'm always interested in what others have to say about their experiences with anxiety

And I take a 25mg tablet of Atarax, an antihistamine that just so happens to ease anxiety, 4 times a day NOT PRN. Its also great for my sinuses! :D

Im a bad agoraphobe but i think its simply by nature because the only time i've felt motivated by a benzo to be social is when i was on 5mg of xanax a day for panic disorder....thats legally intoxicated, you cant drive on a dose that high.

Please dont start benzos unless you absolutely have to. I regret every day that i started gaba agonists and every day i take my two xanax. GABA is the major inhibitory neurotransmitter in your brain and messing with it is alot scarier than most people are told. The drugs seem very innocent at first and almost magical but they lose their magic fast and if you continue with them long enough you learn about their bad side.

thanks everybody. i have this problem being calm. i'm almost always really tense and irritated, and can't relax like i want to. i was ok, when the meds first started, but not so much any more. it gets in the way when i am trying to work (school and job) or relax, and i love working and want to do it b/c i love what i do. the constant tension in my body, is so annoying! i just want to be chill and normal.
but sometimes, like yesterday, i had more of an episode like thing. and was really tired after i finally settled down. and there was no reason for it.

ok, there i go babbling again.

later.

Thats typical of panic attacks.

interesting. i had never considered it panic attacks. just internal angry uncontrollable bursts. but i don't really know the difference.

a friend/co-worker asked me yesterday if i knew that i clench my fist alot. i know i do in places like the mall, b/c i can't stand all the people, but i didn't realize it did so often elsewhere.

thanks again!

The only convetional anti-depressant i felt that worked was remeron but its quite hard to get on and most people cant deal with the anti-histamine effect that causes you to literally sleep the first couple weeks on the drug.

Xanax knocked me on my butt.

CBY,

I hope your butt is better! Have you found a medication that you can take for anxiety? Xanax works for me at 0.5mg as needed but Lorazepam/Ativan does nothing.

Yes I was on Celexa for two years it works very well with out side effects (for me anyway)
I only stopped taking it as a break because I'm on other meds. But i will go back to it if I need to.
