I have never been officially diagnosed with ADD.
But sometimes i often wonder about if i do or dont.
I have some days when i can focus on things fairly well, but other days i find harder to concentrate.
I already have a learning disorder, and my psycologist told me that it can effect my attention.
But im not sure if i should see my doctor for a diagnostic. :(
I have some days when i can focus on things fairly well, but other days i find harder to concentrate.
Alot of people think that people with ADD have to have bad days all the time. It's not true, we have good days and bad days.
But im not sure if i should see my doctor for a diagnostic. Do you think your ADD symtoms intefere negatively with your life? Enough to make day to day living a struggle? If so then looking into a diagnosis might be a good idea but if you think you can manage with your symptoms then you may not need a diagnosis.

I don't have bad days..cause of my ADD, on my meds...but if I am off ...everyone around me does...LOL..
Seriously...if you are not happy with your life,,,and you can't function, and you have done all you can to "treat" your learning disabilites and are still having issues...then find a good ADD doctor and go. Why not? What do you have to lose? I got dx as an adult..cause I got sick of not being able to do the things I wanted to...knew I was capable of doing...and just COULD NOT do them....
Try keeping a journal...so you can perhaps track what is going on...take it with you....so the doctor can decipher what might be connected to your learning disability and what might be ADD?
I wish I had found out earlier in my life...perhaps I could have done many things I missed out on,....I am now to old to do....

I read the best description of ADD in "Shadow Symptoms" By John Ratey
I am mobile so I do not have the exact wording but it basically says that ADD is being unable to consciously control your focus. Every has good days and bad days where they can concentrate better at times than at others however ADDers have little if any control of what grabs the attention.

What about "hyper focusing*?
Its not unusual for me to be hyper focused on something because of my learning disability.
But sometimes i get so hyper focused or obsessed with one thing that i dont get down to doing other things such as completing tasks.
Is this a common symptom of ADD?
I know that ADD can effect people in diffrent ways, so its hard for me to try and relise if its worth considering getting a diagnostic.
I have also learnt that its common for ADD to co-exist with my disability.
