View Full Version : adderall lifestyle
iamthewalrus 04-07-07, 01:39 PM hello everyone,
i have been on adderall for 3 week now and it has promised its wonders..with just a few setbacks. i have no desire to eat, and have lost about 5lbs since i started. my question to you all is,
1) what kind of diet are most of you on? taking supplement, regular meals, times of the day etc.
2) exercise.. will exercising decrease the effects of adderall on your system
3) what not to eat and do? i know some of you suggested not taking vitamin c, or fruit juices.
any other advice for a new adderall user would be great.
thanks

MeGgHeAd 04-07-07, 01:58 PM Hey Walrus.
I havn't taken Adderall before, but I take Dexedrine and it's alot like Adderall, so I'll try to answer your questions/give my opinion based on my experience with Dexedrine:
1. Try to take your meds, maybe 30 mins or so before you eat a good meal. This gives the medication some time to begin absorbing, and I think it absorbs better on an empty stomach. The full effects won't have hit yet, so you should still have a bit of an appetite. I think protein is the best thing you can give yourself early in the day. Try to get 20-30 grams (one egg has about 6-7 grams of protein). Also some complex carbs, like oatmeal or cereal that's high in fibre will stay with you longer than say.. a bowl of Fruit Loops :p I like meal replacement shakes or drinks, like Ensure and you can get ones that have a higher calorie content to give you a bit more of a boost. Even though some fruits and veggies are quite acidic (and this may lessen how effectively your medication is absorbed) it's not a good idea to avoid fruits and veggies all together! Maybe avoid citrus fruits for a few hours after you take your meds. Also, you can take a couple of "TUMS" that will help neutralize stomach acid. Sometimes it's hard to eat on these stimulants, I agree. I find what works best for me is to just eat very small meals throughout the day (because I end up feeling full very fast!) - munch on some carrot sticks and veggies, power up with a protein shake etc.
2. I don't think that exercise will decrease the effects of your medication at all. If anything, getting proper exercise and rest especially, should help you get the most out of your treatment.
3. I already mentioned a few things above.
I hope this helps. :)
i have no desire to eat, and have lost about 5lbs since i started.I used to experience this effect myself, and I suspect most people can relate to this very well who have taken these drugs. I found that drinking a meal replacement shake like Ensure was a life saver for me while in the midst of the anorectic effect. These meal replacement shakes are convenient, quick, tasty, and really take the edge off when you are hungry but detest the thought of eating. I found them to be the easiest way to get the fuel in my body when I did not want to eat anything.
1) what kind of diet are most of you on?I eat a very low carb diet, and yet I keep it very balanced too.
taking supplement, regular meals, times of the day etc.I supplement my diet with a daily shake in the morning & evening that I mix together containing Udo's Choice DHA Blended Oil (the finest Omega fat supplement on the market IMO after trying all the rest), I also take that Udo's Choice Green Blend powder which is loaded with so many different greens, fibers, natural vitamins, potent antioxidents, minerals, therapeutic herbs, etc. I also add a couple of scoops of pure whey protein powder to this shake and blend it all together in a very large glass of water. It equates to about 500 to 600 calories per shake, and is a very satisfying, nutritious, and quick meal.
2) exercise.. will exercising decrease the effects of adderall on your systemGood question. I would suggest asking your Dr. about this. In addition, I would also suggest talking to your Dr. about everything else you mention in your post too.
3) what not to eat and do? i know some of you suggested not taking vitamin c, or fruit juices.I have found it best not to eat within at least 30 minutes of taking a dose, or waiting around an hour after eating before taking a dose. Concerning what not to eat, I found it best to avoid foods with high acid content like tomato sauces, orange juice, etc.
PS I am not trying to promote the brand's "Udo's Choice," or "Ensure" in this post. I am just stating what worked best for me. ;)
.
who suggested no vit c or fruit juices? Are people crazy around here...Nobody here's crazy, just educated.
If you click on the link below, read the paragraph entitled, "Vitamin C and Fruit Juices."

cwbyjohnson 04-07-07, 02:25 PM I love grape juice so much and couldn't ever give it up. I don't drink it during the day but often at nighttime will make myself a protein shake with it. I don't know if I'm hurting myself as far as making more stomach acid for the next morning when I take my next dose, but I just pop a couple tums and forget about it.

.3) what not to eat and do? i know some of you suggested not taking vitamin c, or fruit juices. <--- This statement implies ever at the end. He is under the impression he is to never ever drink fruit juice ever if he takes adderall. He is banning this product from his household.
I'm glad you feel the need to be condescending when I actually knew this simple fact, but on the other hand, if you want to be condescending, then read what the guy asks, and not what your mind thinks. If you were educated, that should mean you are able to comprehend things you read.
make yourself eat, that side effect will go away after a while.
You shouldnt drink juice with vit c, only with the pill, once it wears off drink a lot, you obviously need vit c.
3) what not to eat and do? i know some of you suggested not taking vitamin c, or fruit juices.I didn't suggest anything concerning not taking vitamin C, or fruit juices. What I did do was state what I found to work best for me.
<--- This statement implies ever at the end. He is under the impression he is to never ever drink fruit juice ever if he takes adderall. He is banning this product from his household.Statement implies ever? I thought it implied just when there might be an interaction with his medication. Banning this product from his household? I did not hear him say anthying like that, nor could I fathom why anyone should ever want to do that.
I'm glad you feel the need to be condescending when I actually knew this simple fact, but on the other hand, if you want to be condescending, then read what the guy asks, and not what your mind thinks.I am not being condescending. I am simply stating a fact. You asked if people around here were "crazy" for suggesting something that is an educated response. You knew this fact? Then why would you ask if anyone is crazy for suggesting something that is fact?
If you were educated, that should mean you are able to comprehend things you read.I was not referring to me being educated, I was referring to whomever you stated might be "crazy" for stating that educated response concerning vitamin C & fruit juices. On a side note, I am educated, and I'm able to comprehend the things I read pretty well. However, my education has taught me that the more I learn the more I realize I have to learn. That being said, I may be dumber than the average bear, but I can at least share what I have learned thus far.
optimum00 04-07-07, 03:32 PM The wording he gave didn't imply when he took the medication... it implied should he ever drink fruit juice or take vit c...
Look, it's the wording, and nothing more, who cares, let's move on in life. People are stupid and $5 says someone would read this and be like OMG VIT C RUINS ADDERALL I CANT TAKE VIT C CONTAINING PRODUCTS OMG and then they would get skurvy.
