I was on Adderall 30mg twice a day. I switched to concerta 36 mg twice a day last week because I didn't think the adderall was as affective as it could be. Well the concerta seems to be completely inaffective. I couldn't recall why I knew my add could be fixed better than what the adderall xr was doing. It should have been obvious to myself but after months of not figuring it out I finally thought of it yesterday. When I first told my doctor I thought I was ADD she asked if I had ever taken a friends adderall before I told her yes and she asked me to point to which one out of a pill book. She later prescribed me to the adderall which I knew for a fact was gonna work, which with my luck it didn't. Now I thought about it, my friends was an ir not an xr!
Could there be a possibility the ir is a miracle drug for me when the xr wasn't? The ir even seemed to help with my depression dramatically. Does anyone know if there could be that much of a difference for me?

Sorry I can't be of much help to you, but I do have the same question. I'm taking 60 mg dexedrine xr and wonder if taking the ir would work better for me.

Could there be a possibility the ir is a miracle drug for me when the xr wasn't? Sure, it's possible. I would suggest talking to your Dr about this. From what you've said, it sounds as if your Dr. is certainlly willing to listen very much to what you think is best when making her decision.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but I would talk to your Dr. about this ASAP. If what your friend had was the IR, then your Dr. would certainly like to know that, especially since she prescribed what she did based on you pointing out what you thought your friend had.

I use the IR Dexedrine, and I love it. I've heard people describe that they do not like the IR versions of some of these stimulants due to the fact that they have to dose throughout the day a few times. That has never been an issue for me. I have always found it to be very manageable.

We each can respond so differently to these drugs, and as such I am so grateful that there are as many options as there are for us & our Dr.s to choose from.

What's the difference in feeling between the IR and XR versions?

I am prescribed both Dexedrine 10 mg XR spansules and 5 mg Dexedrine IR tablets (name brand, which are still available in Canada) and I notice no difference in the "feeling" between the two. But, name brand IR tablets are apparently no longer available in the US, so I'm not sure if you would find a more significant difference between generic IR and name brand XR.
