This is a dream I had a while ago. It was very vivid, and I still remember it clearly because it was so wonderful! I wish I could dream this again... Hope you enjoy reading it...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ruins in the Water
The body of the sea swelled
and receded
steadily, a pulse of turquoise
and a roar of foam and surge
The salt I could taste in the air
So strong it was in my nose
The gentle come and go
of the white edged water
soaked the crisp pearlescent sand
which dried again
as the sea pulled away each time
My feet were bare and perfect
and I gripped the fine sand with my toes
as I became aware of myself
The sun was bright
warm
The sky pure
a canopy of blue
I could see myself
as though I was seeing
through another’s eyes
I was beautiful
My hair was gold and wound
at the nape of my neck
with a length of curls
cascading to my shoulders
I was dressed in a gown
of the faintest blue
The very personification
of an ancient goddess
yet I had the air of
a child in wonderment of the world
Looking about with wide happy eyes
lost in the serenity of the beach
A group of people was behind me
I did not turn to see them
But saw them from my second perspective
They were adults
Equally beholding the beach’s magnificence
Touching their hands over their hearts
their mouths open and smiling
They all had cameras
hanging from their necks
and wore khaki shorts
Tourists, who came for the beach
Knowing they may never see it a second time
I was in my own body again
looking through my own eyes
I saw their children playing
at the water’s edge
Running to meet the sea
and running back again
giggling with happiness
and taking shells from the sand
I began to walk
realizing I was a phantom
That I could not be seen
Where a ridge of rocks
cut through the beach
and met the sea
I was pulled
by the sound of laughter and play
There!
Meeting the seawater
was a ruin
a ruin of gleaming white marble
It was what remained
of a temple roof
supported by fluted columns
Slanting downward deeper into the water
where part of it disappeared
There were marble steps
no longer in tact
that had shifted
and were beneath what remained of the temple roof
covered in water
yet shallow enough
for the children to play on them
They splashed each other with the salty water
and stomped their feet
ran up and down the stairs
kicking up their knees
I stood under the cover
of the temple roof
in water that went up to my waist
The children’s voices reverberated around me
from where they played on the steps behind
The temple roof
not far from the crown of my head
replaced the sky
The world outside was hiding
I closed my eyes
and felt my own smile deep within
and breathed the purest air I had ever felt
Peace spread through me
as the growing warmth of an internal sun
and radiated through my very skin
I was home
I was home
I was home
Then I came awake!
