hi, in the last two years my son has been diagnosed with adhd, autistic spectrum disorder and tourettes. He is on 30mgs ritalin and 1.5 risperdol daily, which at the beginning worked brilliantly.
He is a lovely very bright child, however ( lol!!!) when with other children he is a nightmare.!
The hardest part I find is the imaginary voices that andrew hears and trying to convince him they are not real. This is really hard as im sure you are aware- when a child with the traits as i mentioned above gets an idea into his head, it is very hard to change it.
So, if any of you have any advice that may help me i would be really grateful. At the moment both my son's psychiatrist and psychologist have left the services of my local nhs and it has been 6 months since we have had any professional advice! thankyou all

Hello, welcome!!

... wow, I also used to hear imaginary voices as a child (I'm blushing!); but it just stopped when I was 12; it was a harmless oddity really. I've never told my parents about it though! As I look back, I think it was part of imagenary play. Maybe he will be the same, though hopefully grow out of it sooner if it is a problem!

Stick around, post about anything that comes to mind! This forum is very helpful!

Greetings Sarah,

I too used to hear voices in my head as a child. Some of them were always telling me things that I shouldn't do. Other times it was my imaginary play mate. I had a really rough childhood and the kids were all so mean to me. Unfortunately I have developed Social Anxiety. So with that being said, I realize it takes for ever to get a doctor to replace the one that left. (I'm going through that right now with my daughter as well.) But keep looking and hopefully something will come about.

As for the voices he is hearing, keep a close eye on it, and try to get him to tell you what they are saying. If it sounds like he may be in danger of harming himself or others, then immediately seek help. Although I would seek help anyways, just to be on the safe side.

Good Luck Hon! And welcome to the ADD Forums.
