View Full Version : Just started my ADHD treatment
Howdy folks,
I am 18 years old and just started my first dose of 10mg Adderall XR. I am on a plan of 3 days on 10 mg, 3 days on 20 mg, 3 days on 30 mg, and then 3 days on 40 mg. I have struggled with terrible symptoms all my life but never thought I'd be ADHD due to my families misconception of other forms of ADD.
I can feel it working slightly already, so my dose will probrably be upped when I start to fill regular prescriptions - I just wanted to say Hello to everyone and share my joy that I am starting a new life, a life without all the confusion and struggle!
LittlePrincess 04-24-07, 07:36 PM Hi Wind! Your doctor had you go from 10mg up to 40mg per day in less than two weeks time without checking with him/her?
Just asking. I've never heard of that before. :)
Yep! I know it seems odd, he even told me he usually will start people at 5mg, and bump up by 5mg per week or even two weeks. He said he could tell that I had severe problems and it was really messing with my current work, schooling, and social life and that he can tell a dosage around 30-40 will have good affect on me, and he just wanted to start low and warm me into quickly to make sure I don't have any adverse reactions.
He said I was one of not too many patients that the signs of ADHD was obvious as soon as I sat down with him. He's also a highly respected doctor, i was transfered to him by the Head of Yale Physchiatric Hospitol after that doctor diagnosed me.
Exciting times! lifes a changing!
justhope 04-24-07, 10:12 PM Congrats Wind!
I went from 20mg up to 30mg in a month. Then the next month 40mg.
I was on meds for years...so it was not new to me. He explained the possible side-effects, and of course I do read the inserts and the PDR site to see for myself. Doctor just a phone call away, and instructions to stop if I had any really bad or uncomfortable side-effects.
So just keep in touch with him and of course read up....I am sure he knows what he is doing...;)
I feel great right now, I am glad he chose to try adderall with me as it seems to be working perfectly, I'll be sure to check in at the forums every few days and post how everything is working out!
tkdchic78 04-25-07, 08:51 PM Wind I feel your pain. I wasn't diagnosed until college this semester at the age of 19 due to the fact my parents thought ADD only had specific symptoms which I only had mildly...they didn't know about the other symptoms that I have pretty strong (like saying/doing things impulsively).
As soon as my doctor had a sit-down visit with me she diagnosed me immediatly. Heh, she started me off at 20mg and I may get on 30mg soon.
Anyway, good luck with you treatment and I'm happy that you were diagnosed!

acceptance 04-28-07, 08:47 AM adderall..bad substance in the western country...weather,water...humidity...social events..who knows...,ive heard bad recalls.
justhope 04-28-07, 09:05 AM Acceptance, what are you talking about? Can you elaborate please? :eyebrow:
adderall..bad substance in the western country...weather,water...humidity...social events..who knows...,ive heard bad recalls.
I don't understand what you are saying here? what does weather, etc, have to do with Adderall being bad? And what recalls?
I know you are in Australia, but so are a lot of other members, please explain what you are talking about????
Not to be rude, but Adderall is working well for these folks above? If you want to offer a "debate" or your experiences, which is well within your rights here as long as you are within our guidelines? Please elaborate a little more, so we understand what you are talking about, can possibly research for ourselves, or attempt to see your "side" of things?
BTW I don't understand all of this post either?

BTW I don't understand you previous post either?i did say ..."who knows"..people here suffice with dex.,,???
justhope 04-28-07, 09:26 AM Ok, I don't see the "dex" part? But other than you "hearing about recalls"? why are they recalling there? I am interested, not being smart? What else is yours or someone your knows bad "experience" with Adderall? I just hate to "sidetrack" or alarm people , or even get a "part" of your story without a little more detail, so people can , again, see your side,,,but also make an informed decision about what you are talkin about?
Does that make sense? I am not trying to be rude...I just sometimes don't care much for "one" liner's...where someone refers to something like a drug or treatment or doctor as being bad, a quack etc..without some reason why you would say it or think it? It's kind of derogatory sounding, or reading..and I would like to give you the benefit of doubt, that you are not trying to derail people who take Adderall, and just had, or have seen a bad experiences? ;)
Yeah, thanks alot 'justhope'.
I highly doubt the head of the Yale Physciatric Hospital is a quack, since it is a pretty prestigious college and medical department...
Please do elaborate, I understand different people react to different medications, so what works for me doesn't work for others - but I am just curious about your story.
I wish some people didn't look at Adderall so negatively, on the body building forums I post at people attempted to disuade me from using it saying it is "Grade D Meth" and "ADD Is Made up, I Couldnt concentrate either"
People are very narrowminded and it is rather discouraging.
Unfortunately, there are people who make a point of spreading misinformation about medication for reasons only they can justify. What's worse is that some other people don't take the time to discover the truth.
Wind, what do the bodies at the forums say about anabolic steroid use?
Ofcourse its a bodybuilding forum, so they all use anabolics haha
justhope 04-30-07, 10:08 AM Yeah, thanks alot 'justhope'.

OK here I go...:soapbox:
I tend to agree, that someone in that position and education is a quack. Unfortuantely there are too many that are, matter of fact one is too many
You need to just ignore them and know you are doing the right thing. If your life was not managable, and now it is...then you are doing the right thing. There is enough frustration just being ADD, trying to get good treatment, accomadations, and find and level out on medications
Don't waste your time or energy on ignorant unsupportive people...who know nothing about having a chemical imbalance and who are not interested in being supportive or swaying you into thinking you are doing something wrong or your "disability" is not real, or even that you can self-discipline it away.
Gosh if I could do that, I would save a fortuane on meds & doctors, books etc. For myself and my kids? Duh, don't you think I did that already, I wonder how they would feel if they caused someone to do something drastic because of there ignorant advice? I always say, hey if you don't believe it exists, come get my 15 year old for a week or 2. He will MAKE YOU A BELIEVER!
If it's not real, why is it in the DSM-IV? Why is it covered under and protected under the Federal 504, person's with disabilities act? Why are you able to get disability through the government, and scholerships assistance for it.:eyebrow: Hmm I think they are the one's who are misinformed, perhaps because they themselves are idiiots or in denial they themselves are ADD. :faint:
You need to stand up for yourself, be your own Advocate, research, read, and learn all you can to be informed and make good decisoins, that includes coming here..but you need to also know when it's time, to hit the ignore button and realize some people come here to "start" stuff, bring people down...and like to "hear" themselves write. :p
(I am not necessarily referring to anyone person, just my experience here, well , and in life in general ;) )
Good luck!
nwbucket 05-07-07, 11:57 PM I wish that I could "check up" every few days. My life is full of those "excited about something" and then forget about it 2 days later. I found out about this forum 1 year ago, and started to post and after a few days....... forgot....... on to something else...
Unfortunatly the Adderall has not helped that, but it has helped other things. I think that in the end it is up to you. Even though the Dr. Perscribes something you will know if it is too much, or not enough. I am kinda glad for you because you have a Dr. that will perscribe an adaquate amount if needed. At least you can say after a few days... "ok 30 is enough for now" there are a lot of people out there who are being underperscribed because their Dr. is afraid of the medication.
As far as that other person calling Dr's Quacks I disagree.
Sure their are a lot of them out there, but I would not be where I am without them. At the same time we all need to do our research to ensure that the "cure" suits us.
I research a ton about physology, and like a lot of people out there, I have had times that I thought I was smarter than my Dr. The truth is I can't keep up forever. I also need a plumber, and contractor at times.
In the end it is not bad to "rely" on a Dr. but if you do not do your research, and undersrtand what you treatment entails, than it is possibly that you are the "quack"
(Not geared to you, just a general observation)
PS.. TOO TIRED FOR SPELL CHECK, and I HAVE FAT FINGERS....oh yeah and ADD
