To Whom it May Concern,

I NEED HELP!!!! My girlfriend has a 7 Y/O son that has been diagnosed with Asperger's, ADHD, Oppositional Defiance Disorder, and Bipolar Disorder. He has become very violent towards his mother, myself and the pets in the household. My girlfriend and I are expecting a child in Oct. What are we going to do if he becomes violet towards our infant child in the future?

This child has been hospitalized 10 times in the last 3 years due to the medications that he is currently taking. What are our options and how do we go about acting on these options? PLEASE HELP US!!!! PLEASE. NOBODY ELSE WILL HELP THIS CHILD ANYMORE BECAUSE THEY DO NOT KNOW HOW TO TREAT HIM. i CANNOT SAY THIS ENOUGH, PLEASE HELP.

Robert,

Are you and your son trying therapy? Have you checked some of the posts in this forum on Oppositional Defiant Disorder?

This is a hard one to answer Robert. As Big said, therapy, lots of it. Working closely with counselors and doing behavior modification therapy. Maybe a change in his diet to get him away from things that would aggrevate his disorders. Some children get worse with what they get via diet. You say he has aspergers, have you checked in to the feingold diet for him... info at www.feingold.org also, keeping him away from processed sugars as much as possible. If he's on meds some meds will make other diagnosis worse.. while it helps with one, it aggrevates the other. If you are in US have you given thought about his trying the new drug called Strattera, more info at www.strattera.com, it is a non-stimulant. I know a lot of people have found success with it, while others found that it was unuseful in their therapy. As with all meds however, what works for one, may not work for another. Your child needs lots of positive reinforcement. No matter what he needs to know that he is loved, especially with a new child on the way. I am not an expert, what I have learned I have learned from Big and others in the ADD support room. However, I hope I have given you some hope to make it through this trial in all your lives. Hopefully, you can all find peace amongst you and your son can become a productive child.

Robert,

Although I am not real familar with Aspergers, my daughter has AD/HD, OCD, ODD (Oppositional Defiance Disorder) and Bipolar.

Ok with that being said. Here lies the problem. This is what her Drs. have told me.
1. We can't treat the AD/HD because all of the current meds aggrivate the Bipolar and cause Mania.

2, OCD & ODD has very few effective medication treatments but can be dealt with through Behavorial Therapy. In patient usually works the best.

3. It's a balancing act that takes time and preserverance. (sp?)(having problems with the P words tonight..LOL)

It's tough and is very time consuming and you have to ask your self. (Is this all that can be done, or am I getting the run around?)
Often we are getting the run around for many reasons. And around here the medical community cringe when they see me comming because I do my homework and refuse to let my daughter fall through their cracks.

Chin up, and keep trying. A solution is bound to come forth sooner or later.
