I have been taking Adderall XR 20mg once a day for the last two weeks, and in the last week I have begun experiencing etreme pain in my breasts. It has been so bad the last few days that I have not left the house, and have been walking around with a very hot water bottle under my shirt.
My pharmacist seems to think it is not related to the Adderrall, but to feminine issues, and I just don't agree.
I have taken the non-XR Adderall successfuly in the past and did not have any side effects. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so please HELP!

Hi -

I've been on 20mg Adderall XR for just about a month. I had some breast discomfort, but nothing like what you're describing. I haven't noticed it in the last few days, so maybe its something that goes away after time? Seems like it would be worth a call to the Dr., just in case....

(I'm in Denver too, maybe its our high altitude ;)).

I've had random chest pain, so I had to learn a lot about this in my reading, and from my Doctor and SO.

---------

Does your pain seem to be like pain in the mammary gland (or fatty) tissue, or way deep in the chest under the centre breast bone (sternum)?

My understanding is that 'in heart muscle' pain (like in a heart attack) is that the pain is VERY deep and generally in the middle of the chest. Like -=under=- the Sternum.

-Could be chest muscle pain (pectoralis) due to spasm or tightness. Stimulants tighten muscles & worsen any latent trigger points.

-Could be a pulled intercostal muscle. These are the muscles btwn the ribs. Straining one can hurt like the Dickens.

-Could be "chest wall" pain. (Stimulants seem to cause that in people.)

--------------

-Could be PMS (particularly if you use Caffeine) which is known to cause breast fluid retention and fibrocystic breast issues(knotty sore breasts in the Luteal Phase/b4 period).
-Chest pain in women (r/t heart issues) is usually more diffuse than in men.
Women can present with obscure things like sweating (diaphoresis), or nausea/vomiting (vagal nerve stimulation) or "sudden flu-like fatigue" (ischemia?) a few days b4 an MI.

I'd really suggest you talk to your MD and get an EKG done.

Doctors are supposed to give EKGs to people who are starting stimulants. (Too many do not!)

Stimulants can cause heart rhythm changes. (EKGs can pick this up.)

If a person suspects that they have had a heart injury (MI; heart attack) there are a series of blood tests that the doctor can request. (e.g. Troponin, etc.)

Talk to your Doctor.

I started having chest pains as well. I thought it was because I started using heavier weights in my exercises, but then I realized I just started taking the medicine...it has gone away recently though.

The pain is not in my chest at all, It is stricktly in my breasts. I believe the term "fatty tissue" would be correct. It feel like someone is sticking a large needle in through my nipple area.

My pharmacist did think that it was related to my period, but I truley don't feel like this the case.

I do have an appointment scheduled with my PC, but it is not untill next week, and frankly, I am not dealing with the pain well at all. If I find anything out I will be sure and post here to help others.
