Hey People.

I maybe suspected of suffering Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, I've had issues with weight gain, irregular menstrual periods, occasional pain around the lower tummy area, occasional bouts of thrush (YUCK:eek: ) and a hell of a lot of trouble falling pregnant!

I've lost 9 kilos...maybe more now in the last 2 months but there have been no improvements on my menstrual cycle, the pain is admittedly less and I'm still getting thrush (I live in a fairly hot climate area which doesn't help but I AM moving soon) and I do plan on seeing a doctor as soon as I reach a new address.

Can any ladies on here tell me if they're gone or are going through this???

Thank you
Selena

Hi Selena, I've never experienced this, but you definitely should go see a doc as soon as you can. PCOS usually involves endocrine issues as well as gyne, and is treatable, but you need to know as there can be some serious health issues associated with it left untreated/unmanaged. Another clue is it usually is accompanied by in increase in facial hair.

I really like these two websites for medical information:

www.emedicine.com (http://www.emedicine.com)

www.fpnotebook.com (http://www.fpnotebook.com)

Based on what you are saying: the chronic episodic thrush would also concern me.

As you probably know, sugar and altered pH balances help in yeast/fungal overgrowth. (Impaired glucose tolerance, unhealthy blood fat ('lipid') profiles, etc. can be part of PCOS.)

The weight loss part concerns me too.

-Has your doctor checked your blood sugar?
-Your immune system? (Some immune issues can cause thrush and weight loss.)

My mom has PCOS and has had it her whole entire life. She had many many miscarriages (don't mean to scare you) but she eventually had me :)

One thing to do is start taking lots of folic acid. I don't know the exact mgs right now, but I know she and I both take 2 pills of the normal vitamin you get at walmart. For some reason after she took this the cysts started coming in less and less. I mean still go to paps to make sure, but it might help :)

Man this doesn't look like some thing I would fool around with, it has some pretty serious risk. Your health is more important than moving, if you have not seen a doctor I would do so. Thrush can be caused by blood sugar being high as well as lower immune functions, you really need to see a doctor ASAP especially to rule out some pretty bad conditions than can mimic and/or co-exist with this condition.

Sorry about the yeast, hot weather doesn't help one bit can you eat yogurt?

Thanks People.

I will see the doc as soon as I move....again! and I'm sure if it turns out that I'm infertile then I deal (I have this strange feeling I'm barren and I've had this feeling since I was 15)

I have PCOS myself and I urge you to see your doctor. If you're diagnosed with it (and I certainly hope you aren't) pm me I will send you a free e-book on how to deal with it. You can print it out if you want but it'll be huge like over 400 pages I beleive but it is SO worth it.

I would also recommend the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler. This is a way for you to start tracking your fertility and your cycles based on your body temperature first thing in the morning and your cervical mucus. Just tracking these two things can be an enormous help in figuring out if you are even ovulating, when you are, if your luteal phase is long enough to support an implanting embryo, and to help your gyno. figure out what might be going on with your body chemistry.

Plus it's just a darn good book to help you learn your body better. Love, love, love it.

I've lost 9 kilos due to dieting....I've been to the docs and I'm not that unwell but thanks, however I'm still getting tests for the ovaries but my blood count's normal.P.O.C. information and support (http://www.pcosupport.org/)
