Edward 04-30-07, 06:02 PM Yes it would, but maybe not in a good way, don't do this unless you have Dr's approval nwbucket 05-08-07, 12:46 AM Don't do it. I read in a book that L-tyrosine would help ADD, but I did not ask my Dr. I did not think that it mattered because it was not a "drug" Verry unhappy time. I stopped after a few days. It was not a good expierence. prurigro 05-11-07, 06:00 PM my doctor said its not something psychs in general recommend-- she reasoned this with this: your brain has a certain balance of neurotransmitters, more serotonin is less dopamine and the reverse is true too. When you add extra l-tyrosine to your diet, it increases dopamine (focus + pleasure), epinephrine (alertness + stimulation + physical side effects), norepinephrine (memory, drive) and also a few less important things-- this throws this balance off; you might start getting effects from lowered serotonin and other neurotransmitters (you dont necessarily want this) and too high of levels of for example epinephrine theoretically, if your add was caused from not getting enough l-tyrosine naturally in your diet (and thus not having enough dopamine) I believe this would fix the add pretty easily. The add brain is more complicated than that tho, it doesn't let the correct amount of dopamine (theoretically) out in places its needed, even when your stores are full- so simply increasing the amount of dopamine stored in your brain isn't necessarily going to help (though it may a little) - it will effect stimulant drugs more heavily however that said, I tried it once with and once without amphetamines : -- The time I tried it with (dex in this case) I had both positive neutral and negative effects. The positive effects were increased focus (even compared to dex normally which is enough imo), increased memory of the events after taking l-tyrosine (ace'd my test), decreased procrastination and literally no comedown. The neutral effects were increased euphoria and talking as much as people without add do on amphetamines. The negative effects were sweating, increased cardiovascular effects, acne (I'll usually get a pimple or two a week on dex, in this case however I got 3 in one night), panic (focus was strong and I was literally racing to finish), inability to sleep (literally no comedown), inability to be 'calm/collected', that empty feeling (the lacking of serotonin feeling, usually caused by amphetamines) was increased, I was tired the next day (likely due to lack of quality sleep) and had slightly increased tolerance the next time I took it (more likely a tolerance to dopamine than amphetamine as this went away the time after that) the time I took it without amphetamines I noticed a very slight increase in focus (coulda been placebo tho.. it was that small), but also an empty feeling (lacking serotonin feeling) along with it. There was increased euphoria compared to being sober without l-tyrosine but it didn't feel good at all and it didn't drive me to do anything I wouldn't have normally. I also had increased tolerance the next time I took amphetamines for whatever reason (lasted just the next time). anyway, its an interesting substance- but I'd recommend for your health (physical and mental) you stick to getting it naturally, especially when mixing with meds -- if anything 5-htp (precursor to serotonin) would be good to balance the increase in dopamine from amphetamines which are already causing an imbalance. |
