I guess that would be me, that you would like to hear from? Is there any difference than looking at the pile of clothes that you know you should fold and sitting down with your eyes closed, soft music in the background and tons of images wonderfully popping through your head?
Yes! Most of my insights about myself came from relaxing and allowing my thoughts to wonder where they may. Since I have started this process I am wonderfully intune with traits that I have and I am more secure with myself.
This isn't a fix, it is a process of allowing yourself to be.
Hrmmm...last time I sat and listened to myself, I got a headache...LOL Gonna have to try it again I guess :)
scatterbrain 03-24-03, 08:29 AM A woman i know and deeply repect once told me of a Bhuddist retreat she went to in the mountains where they walked for 3 days, stopping only to eat and sleep and when nature called.there was no talking allowed.she said it was the most amazing experience.i love to walk.i find that for me walking is a form of meditation.i go for long walks just for the sake of walking and my mind usually starts to slow down after a while.i find that just sitting in one spot meditating is often hard for me but that,if i am walking,i gain tremendous benefit.i sometimes go in the morning early,or in the evening after supper.i like morning best because if i go in the evening i go with my daughter and she (LOL) talks my ear off the entire time...:D
I do biofeedback.
It's a meditative state where you put yourself in a favorite place that is calming and relaxing. I also listen to soft music like Enya, many of the Nature/instrumental type music..and of course Pink Floyd. I also burn Lavendar scented candles or use Lavendar essential oils. I usually sit crossed legged indian style and rock back and forth with the beat of the music. (Gotta keep moving :p)
This has helped me greatly in many troublesome areas..Anger Management, focusing, my relationships, and also problems solving. It even helps me to organize myself, and helps me to deal with my abusive father.
I've been doing this since I was 14 after a therapist showed me how. I'm no longer a firecracker..lmbo Just a red head that will get her point accross without exploding. :p
healthwiz 04-23-03, 01:49 AM Centerpointe sells great CD for helping meditate. Its not like your typical meditation stuff, as I've heard lots. Its actually a scientific set designed to merge right brain and left brain thinking. It works incredibly well for me. The first tape is free too. Its a demo that works well, with no obligation. Just ask for the demo. I think the site is www.centerpointe.com...but not sure. Try it.
I also practice meditating in a sitting upright position. I resist moving even when I have an itch, as that is generally the unconscious distracting us from a wonderful meditation about to occur. I turn the lights off and light a candle, and put on the headphones with Centerpointe. I make sure my body is comfortable and warm, especially making sure my feet are comfortably propped up on a pillow so they don't dangle over the floor...that is very important that feet are resting gently and flat on floor if sitting in a chair.
It helps me tremendously. I watch the visuals fly through my mind, and I resist verbally analyzing them....I try to let them tell their own story with out verbalization. It is a learning experience. I stay alert...meditation is not for sleeping...it is for increasing awareness of self in relation to truth, and it does that.
Its for anyone, not just for ADHD. Those with hyper minds may experince the "monkey on the brain" that constantly chattering part of the mind, but with regular practice of watching the visuals, the monkey on the brain will slowly take the back seat to the movie traveling through your mind.

Jon,
This is basically what I do, except if the pictures don't come to me, I put myself somewhere familiar instead and watch that scene. As far as moving, a gentle rocking is ok if you put it to rhythm. After awhile it become an unconcious thing. I will check out the website you posted..oh and btw..because you added the dots the link won't come up because it is adding the next word connected to the dots.
Thank you for sharing:D
healthwiz 04-29-03, 03:32 AM Hi Spirit
Thanks for sharing about your own meditation. I never tried the rocking back and forth, but might try that. By the way, you remind me of someone else, who you kind of look like, a good friend.
Did you check out the http://www.centerpointe.com/
?
take care
Jon
I have various levels of meditation that I do. My first level is sitting outside balancing a cup on my head for fifteen minutes. It's amazing how calming that can be when your brain is running in circles.
After that I try clearing my head of verbal thought, and sometimes I go from there to visualization exercizes or prayer. I try to keep it simple.
