I have been lurking on this forum and find many
similiarities with my personality . I would like to share
my qualities below and seek your opinion on whether this is
typical of someone with ADD:

Some negatives about me are:

Stammer - Had a bad stammering/stuttering problem towards
end of high school and early college. Slowly things
improved as I practiced speaking in public more and joined
a Toastmasters. Stammer almost entirely gone now ( am age
30 )

Sensitive to criticism

Superiority complex

Judgmental - I feel all people are idiots unless prooven
otherwise Have unorthodox views on life , primarily derived
from my strong interest in philosophy , sociology and
psychology.

Shy in social settings - Have social anxiety. Some of this
I attribute to my superiority complex. My comments
typically do not espouse majority view, so I have learned
to just keep them to myself... As I result I just agree
with whatever is being discussed, rather than offend people
by exposing the stupidity of their views.

Always feel bored and like I could be doing 10 time more
things if only I had the opportunities knocking on my door

Minimal experience with women: 30 years old but only been
in one non-sexual relationship that just lasted a few
months. She was dominating type and it wasn't a healthy
relationship.

Hot temper - Get very mad/ frustrated at myself when
playing sports.

Family history of schizophrenia - My uncle and aunt on my
Mom's side have it.

Some positives about me are:

Logical - Make decisions based on logic, not emotions

Extremeley Frugal - Earn 140k/year but save/invest 95% of
it ( I enjoy the 'good life' but make sure I do it when it
is free, i.e someone else is paying or I get free
miles/points ).

Very compassionate - Have a strong desire to help people

Love to do things that have a big impact on society. Like
to write letters to editor on controversial topics. I have
many websites and obsess about how many thousands of
visitors per day they get...

What do you think, do I have ADD?

To me this doesn't sound ADD, but this is only by comparing what you have wrote to myself. There are some similarities between you and me like:

Always feel bored and like I could be doing 10 time more
things if only I had the opportunities knocking on my door

playing sports.

I have the stammer thing too but I'm not sure if that's because of my ADHD or not.

Are you ever innatentive, hyperactive or impulsive?
For exmaple do you easily tune out in converstations, does your mind give you like a million thoughts all at once or do you speak or act without thinking?

None of these apply to me. I do tune out in conversations, but only after I determine the other person is just talking rubbish. In other words, I would not tune out if they were talking something intereseting or relevant to me.

None of those things are ADHD traits. ADHD is a disorder of attention. The bottom line is, if you have ADHD, you have attention issues.

Some of the traits which you describe sound a bit like asperger's syndrome. But, going by your description of yourself, you really seem like a normal but shy person to me.

If you think those traits which you described are far beyond what most people do, if you feel that you are impaired in some way, or that socializing with others is painfully difficult, then perhaps you should talk to a doctor about it.

Me :D

I agree with Speedo. Parts of that do sound a bit like Asperger's Syndrome (Its was my first thought, if indeed there is any impairment at all). I really cannot see where the description completely qualifies for AS however. There would have to be more, just as there would have to be more to qualify for an ADHD diagnosis.

Yeh my first thought was aspergers too but I don't really know all that much about it so I didn't say.

Thanks for the replies, I looked up Aspergers but it doesnt seem to apply to me at all. I have no problem reading people's non verbal communication, in fact I can often read them better than they know themselves!
