Hi all I am getting rediagnosed, but I am not sure what to look for in a dr.
I have a psychologist, and he wants me to get diagnosed. He tells me I am ADHD, but the psychiatrist wont give me the meds because I am epileptic and take anticonvulsants. I havent had a seizure in 20 some yrs.
I am on straterra now but it doesnt deal with focusing and concentrating on the school work.
What do you think about looking into the meds for my seizures. Some said they are the culpurt for not focusing. What to you think... I know you cant give medical advice just your opinion. and knowledge. thanks

Gosh it depends upon the type of seizure medication you are on. . . .was all I could find under congative function and anticonvulsants (http://epilepsyontario.org/client/EO/EOWeb.nsf/web/Do+new+anticonvulsants+affect+cognitive+function)

I am not getting rediagnose for epilepsy but for ADHD.
I am on tegretol and mysoline. But I know people who have epilepsy and ADHD, it is more prevelant in people with Epilepsy because they are both neurologically based.

Some said they are the culpurt for not focusing
Tegretol, advanced users (http://www.drugs.com/cons/tegretol.html)

Mysoline, advanced users (http://www.drugs.com/cons/mysoline.html)

The mysoline did not specifically have problems with memory or concentration listed.
Yes it is possible for these medication to be the culprit for your problems remaining focused ,especially sense you take both . . . . .

In otherwords, my medication could be manifesting the same sypotom of ADHD.
Yeah I do take both, I am going to call my neurologist and make an apppt to adjust my meds or see if the tegretol XR can be use.
My medications have not been changed but they have been monitored. They have offered the XR but I have been apprehensive. thanks mead.

I hope the information was useful and I am glad you are taking this to your neurologist. The way many of these neuroleptics work I could see the potential but after reading general information I noticed some were more likely than others. An extended release my help due to the differences in how the medications are released.
I hope you and your doc find the solution. . . . .let me know how it goes.
