Hello,

I have been researching non-drug interventions for add (4 family members have it).

Has anyone tried biofeedback training?

If yes, would love to hear your results.

Hi Lea Ann!

I've been doing Biofeedback Training for six weeks now. So far I'm really pleased. During the sessions you have to practice your focus and then you get to see the graphs produced by your alpha and beta (concentration) WAVES. I can already see the difference in my graphs. I think you really can learn to focus. Plus when I tell my friends about it, I can feel myself relaxing and focusing. But I think like any treatment there's no quick fix. It takes a while before you can become a master.

I am newly diagnosed so everything about ADD is a mystery to me. Mostly I am talking to my friends and family to get their support. I am hoping to be able to get some things FINISHED for a change. That's my ADD issue. So we'll see what happens.

Good luck if you and your family decide to try it! :)

10 years before I ever knew I had ADD I had a friend who is a biofeedback therapist. For 2 years he traded me biofeedback therapy for computer work. I learned MANY ways to control my physical states including how to get myself to sleep within a couple minutes.

If you can find someone who is good and uses computerized feedback tools I'd highly recommend it!

My 16 year old ADD son has had only 6 sessions (supposedly 60 sessions is considered a full treatment course) on a home biofeedback unit and we are beginning to see him focus much better during each session. The first time he used it I thought he was going to throw the computer out of the window because he got so frustrated. The object on the screen will simply not move if the person does not focus. He has definitely learned how to use it correctly in only a couple of sessions. Now when he uses the unit he is MUCH calmer and actually has learned how to concentrate so the object on the screen will move correctly. It's a struggle getting him to do it consistently though (every other day or at least twice per week). I have not yet noticed the improved focus when he does the biofeedback transfer over to his daily routine though.

We have also just began Strattera but we are having mixed results with it so far.

We are hopeful that the biofeedback will eventually work! fingers crossed...

I am wondering whether any of you are also talking about neurofeedback? I tried it, but it's expensive and I am confused by hearing people, mainly physicians, say that "there is no good evidence that it works." Wondering if people have had good experience with it.

yes neurofeedback is the same thing as biofeeback to my knowledge. a lot of people say that there is no good evidence but really, as you can see, a lot of people are definitely seeing results. i hope to be able to afford one someday
