I need some input here - I'm in a bit of a bind. I was diagnosed with ADD Inattentive Type for about 10 years now as a an adult, have taken different meds and have really responded well with Straterra.
Problem is that I also tend to have high blood pressure and have a family history of it which include heart attacks. I have a little 1 year old and I want to be around for awhile so I've stopped taking the strattera and my blood pressure did drop. Problem is I can't keep up with the paperwork at work and I'm suffering because of it. The way I see it is that I can either take care of the present, and take my meds and make a present living, but risk the future with heart desease, or vise versa.
I don't really want to start taking meds for high blood pressure if I don't have mainly because I don't want the lablel of being "at risk" when it comes to insurance etcs.... because I know how that works, It shoots up future insurance premiums and I've also heard there are some no so desirable side-effects to blood pressure meds
Does anyone have any similar frustrations or experiences? Any input would be great!

Out of curiousity... how much of a rise are you seeing? (estimated...)

Before Straterra I was about 130s'/80s'. Afterwards its around lower 150s over lower 100s'. I'm about 5 pounds heavier as well - which shouldn't cause that big of a problem and haven't changed my diet all too much, and do cardio about 3 times a week.

You may want to try and see if your doctor will prescribe you some type of antihypertensive medication. I was prescribed Benicar.
Hi friends, I am 18 years old student. My height and weight is normal. Recently my doctors have told me that my average blood pressure should be 120/80 according to my age but right now it is around 145/85. I have a horseshoe kidney. Is it a possible reason that’s why my blood pressure is so high? If so, then what is your suggestion to keep it down?

re: 5
You are asking us a Medical Question that you need to ask your Doctor about.
Several kidney hormones are involved in regulating blood pressure.
Blood Pressure is very complexly controlled, and influenced.
We can't comment on what is causing a BP elevation.
We cannot comment here on a 'horseshoe kidney' problem and theorize how it may affect your BP. (I trained as a nurse and have no frikking clue, ok?)
Why do people seek possibly very serious medical advice from mere strangers who could be any half-literate imbecile with a big mouth and spouting off wrong answers??
Dangerous.
Talk to your Doctors !!
Jomarcell: Let’s see if I understand. You have been d/x with ADD, Straterra works well for you, you tend to have high blood pressure and have a family history of it which includes heart attacks, if you stop taking Straterra your work suffers significantly, you don’t want to take bp meds b/c of the possible side effects and your insurance will go up and finally, you have a little 1 year old and I want to be around for awhile.
First, what does ADD and taking Straterra do to your insurance? Second, if Straterra helps you work and without it you’re a mess, then continue with Straterra and continue making your income and pay the extra on your insurance. It sounds like you at least have borderline high blood pressure with a family history of it, so you will probably wind up with high bp eventually whether you continue with Straterra or not. Last and most important, high bp is a silent killer, that’s one hell of a side effect. If you need the meds take them for your little 1yr old. Don’t try to play the odds with high bp.
I have high bp with ADD. I take 80mgs Adderall IR/day and atenolol/chlorthaldone 100/25mgs 2x/day (bp med). My bp was high 140’s/high 80’s and now it’s 115/78. My older sister didn’t take meds, she had a stroke and her right side is 60% paralyzed. My younger brother didn’t take meds, had a stroke but had little damage b/c he got treatment in time. He now takes his bp meds.
Just my opinion,
