My 8 yr. old son is currently taking Strattera and Adderall XR, he is ADHD/Anxiety.

His psychiatrist is thinking about trying him on a very low dose of Risperdal to help with his emotional ups and downs. He is often; irritable, angry, worried, sad, confused.....the list could go on.

She is not saying if he has a mood disorder at this time.....What are your experiences with Risperdal for Children?

My 11 year old has taken Risperdal for agitation due to BPII since last year. She does well on it.

My youngest is on a low dose as well. She does very well. We have slowly worked the dose to 1.5mg/day and have seen no side effects. My daughter is more even and happy, and adjusts to change better; but I do not know if the med is helping or if it is that school is almost over. We started this med because teasing problems at school were pushing my daughter into anxiety, and she was drawing pictures that tend to scare people. The teasing has been addressed successfully so that may be helping her as well.

Crazy Feet- That is good to know!

Vickie- Sorry to hear that your daughter was being teased at school:( , I hope things are better now.
We meet with his child psy. next Friday, I think she may add in a small dose of Risperdal.

He can be so calm and focused, then wham.....the irritability, anxiety and moodiness hits you like a ton of bricks out the nowhere!! He has expressed that he feels out of control and wants those feelings to stop.
I feel like I am walking on egg shells around him most of the time. We also think he may be rebounding a bit with the Adderall XR; his body may be metabolizing it faster now that he is in a growth spurt.
