After receiving a bad evaluation at work and realizing that maybe I'm not just "dingy", my doctor referred to a psych to be evaluated for Adult ADD. I have actually been struggling since the separation, because I've always had someone to pick up my slack, remind me of things. Now, I'm on my own and can't seem to do on single thing on time.
I received a bunch of waiver papers from the pysch today. I was looking for a questionairre packet. My visit is next month and want to know how long the diagnosis takes, like if more than one visit, bacially what the process consists of from first visit to medication, if diagnosed.

Psychologist or Psychiatrist referral?

Unfortuntely, I don't know if there is one standard answer that can be provided. Some people seem to go through a lot of tests before they nail down a diagnosis. Others like myself, pretty much got a diagnosis on day 1. And if memory serves me correct, I even got meds on the first go too.

Even if you manage to get a diagnosis right away, there will still be a time of adjustment you'll most likely go through. I mean, just the medication alone will take some getting used to. Which drug and what dose will work best for you? Hard to say until you go through it. And then you may have to get yourself some professional help in terms of organizing yourself and managing your ADD.

This isn't meant to be discouraging. Rather, just understand that a diagnosis and some meds won't automatically make everything fantastic. But you will get through this and learn to come up on top.

Good luck.
