I spoke with the instructor of my art history today, I had a melt down last week and her want to talk to me about it.

The one thing that is botherign me was my notetaker is not giving me notes and I need detailed notes like she takes. I have zero notes for this quiz, we have on Thursday. Any how, on my IEP it states that I am to receive a copy of any powerpoint, handouts one class period in advance soo that I have time to famialize my self with the material... does this apply to any handouts, like the ones the he hands out with the slides and work of art we will be discussing.

Should I be receiving all copies of the pictures he shows in class. even the ones he that arent in the book.

I am not ready for this quiz, and I am allowed to take it monday, but the problems with that is I wont be using the weekend to get ready for my class material on Tues Wed and Thurs. if I take it monday.

I meant to say my 504. I did talk to the disbality office today and the counselor. I told her what he said about not meeting all of my accommodations that is was not bad if he didnt meet 2 of them.... I just gave him the eye, and said to my self that we will see.

She told me she hates it when the instructors, say that they wont meet them.... I know it is the law. And I know where to go when they have the chip on the shoulder.

So I am under a 504 I guess.

He told me he cant get me the information before class, because he doesnt have it ready before class. I did yesterday. I told him that because of the 504 I am entitled to have all of the above on my accommodation Memo. He said well not haveng two isnt bad.

I agree with "ah" - he sounds like a jerk & as far as I understand, you have the law on your side? But I guess it would be too expensive in terms of money and energy to be able to hit him with it? I got frustrated with a couple of units I had this semester because the powerpoint slides the lecturers were working from were not available over the weekend - not good when you have Moday lectures. Is there anythign more the disability office can do? Hope you get it sorted out!

First , Kate the disability counselor of will be talking to him. He thinks he doesnt have to follow all the accomodations. Well guess what, he is wrong.

I dont think it would cost me money, I hope not if I had legally take time to court. I dont think that he would want that either.

I hope you don't have to go down the road of legal action to make him do the things he is required to do. If it was me I think it would take too much out of me to fight to get what I needed to compete on a level with non-ADD students as well as do well at uni. Fortunately so far I have not needed any accomodations but I guess I will learn as I go as to what help I may need to ask for. Anyway, good luck in getting what you need and good luck with your studies!

AuntChris, anybody, I need some help getting a 504 just started at my son's new school. Already I think they are messing with me. He was privately evaluated (by the same doc that does the district evals, btw), was given recommendations for accommodations, just a couple, and the school counselor told me that THE SCHOOL determines what my son will need after a period of observation. That did not make sense to me at all, or the way it happened at his previous school. They could wait forever to determine that when the professional already has.

She gave me the song and dance that students in high school are expected to do things on their own now (duh). So he's supposed to just fish and fumble around for what the assignments are and when they are due, and all of the details. This is all he really needs.

Can anyone help me on getting started in a difficult scenario?

Okay Frazzle, try Andrews site from here...

http://www.bigsplace.com/IEP504.html

this is the site of the 504 section he has. I love this site, there is a little bit of everythingn and more.

http://www.ldonline.org/indepth/%20legal_legislative/edlaw504.html

I love this site too.

The home page is www.ldonline.com (http://www.ldonline.com/)

The many idea of 504 is just this ( i got this from www.ldonline.com (http://www.ldonline.com/))
Section 504 is a civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities. Section 504 ensures that the child with a disability has equal access to an education. The child may receive accommodations and modifications.

You asked for experiences, I was not getting accommodation that I know when i was a child. As a student in college I was diagnosed by a psychneurologist, I took the formal letter to the disability to teh disabilty office, the counsler and i decided on the accocmmodations.

Since he is still I a child I would think the counselor who is qualified at the school and deals with disabilities would sit down with you and your son and talk to you and your son together as to what kind of accommodations he needs.

The trouble I'm having getting started, is that, though he has an evaluation with accomodations recommended,

The school said that the school itself is the one deciding what he will ultimatley need. I don't think that is right, is it? Does't the recommendations from the evaluation count for anything??
