I wonder if I have ADD sometimes. I am 35 and have always had trouble with relationships and fitting in socially. I tend to "space" out during conversations and have difficulty remembering what someone has just said. I find that it is starting to affect my work performance. I also have difficulty basic math as far as doing calculations without paper. I have difficulty staying in one relationship for long and have also been through a divorce. Now I am starting a new career and I feel like changing it already after 4 years of education! Does this sound like ADD?

It does sound like some of the things that people with ADHD struggle with. Contacting a doctor (a psychologist was who I found) who SPECIALIZES in ADHD (preferably in Adults OR in Adults as well as children) would be a good idea if your concerns continue.
Nice to have you aboard!

It's a little hard to tell based on what you've said so far. Do you find yourself 'spacing out' in other areas of your life? How about focusing and remembering things?

I have a lot of difficulty remembering things. If someone tells me a phone number and then I have to go call it I have to ask them to repeat it. I can't remember what was said during a conversation I was just in. When I read I can't seem to follow it...I space out during reading and forget or can't follow what was just read. I will read a chapter for school and then the next day most of what I read is gone. If we have small group discussions and have to read something in class I can't seem to retain it enough to discuss it intelligibly. But, I think I also have some social anxiety so sometimes I am also nervous around others and this makes me blank out.

Hey Artsygal,
I don't know if you have ADD, but if you talk with your doctor, and they don't know much about it, don't let them just put you off. Have them send you to a specialist if you are concerned. There are also questionaire's online that you can do to help you determine if you really should talk with your doctor or not. If I get a chance, I will look up the one I did - and give you a link.

Very true At Heart
I personally dont care for the online questionarres because they can give you false hope due to your own beliefs and can become biased.
Do you have a neurologist? or a Psychologist. I think the best person is a neurospsychologist but there are other types of doctors such as a neurologist , psychriatist, psychologist and others that can diagnose you. I know there is a thread here about this verey topic. Tara answers some of ther questions.... I just dont know where it is. I would check it iout with your family doctor and tell her your concerns, and get a referal to be tested.
I also have had hard time with relationships and maintaining friends. I wounder if it has to do with my epilepsy. It could be you are ADD or not. I dont know because I am not qualified . There are alot of characteristics that are associated with ADHD but the best thing to do is write them down, and take the list to the dr and let him or her sort it out. Also, the best advice I got from the forum when I went to get tested was to take your report cards from grade school. So when you go, take every thing you have including report cards with you. The can tell alot from the grade and teachers remarks.

In my opinion he shouldnt have given you the medication if you are not ADHD.
It does take 4-8 weeks for medication to fully take effect do give it time. Thh annoying side effects with dwinlde down and then you will be able to know if the medication is really helping you on focusing and concentration.
