I just finished my written statement on why I should be given one last chance at my current college. I outlined everything that I plan to do, why I'm having troubles, what I'm doing now to change things and I also talked about the meeting that I had with the scholls disability specialist ( the first of many meeting). I was wondering if anyone here has ever successfully had an appeal granted and what you said in it and how it turned out for you.

Do you have a Counsellor for support and advocacy? Tough thing to go alone.
Also, what steps can you take to ensure you will be successful during this second attempt -- if they let you back into your program?
e.g.
what tools/services will you add, to help you do better at school? An Appeal Board might like to hear that.
Like:
I'm going to get testing to discover more about my academic problems;
get a tutor;
talk with my Profs each week after class for 10 minutes to see how I'm doing/get questions answered;
get a Notetaker, etc.
join a support group
register with special needs
I have been on suspension once and probation once at my school in south mississippi, it wasnt very difficult to be re-admitted. I simply had to draw up a plan that identified how I messed up and how I plan to fix it,... more or less a contract that I was making with my department,appeals, and myself... I even wrote that I was taking the plan to be zeroxed... for me. Sounds silly or juvenile I know, but with a daily reminder of my failure, I was able to increase my focus through my own desparity for success. I am with queens U on this one though... basically just acknowledge your areas of weakness, and define them without assigning blame to anyone including yourself, rather try to assume that the areas can be fixed with increased support of you... and others. Sell yourself to the university, as they need to know that your continued education is an asset to both you and them. Let them know how you think you messed up and how you plan to fix it... and please try to stick to these ideas trust me: THEY WILL HELP. I dealt with this same problem about 3 years ago, and plan to graduate and attend law school next year. You will always have problems in life ADD or not, its how you rise to these "challenges" that defines who you are... dont let it get you down, don't be defeated, do be strong. Good Luck to you.
