Ever have a moment where you were doing a bunch of things and then suddenly you're NOT and it completely unbalances your thought process?

That happens to me a lot. Normally it's just that I was doing something intently, switched to something else, and then forgot what the first thing was. Then it goes away when I remember what the first thing was and keep doing it. Usually, this is the fault of having switched window tabs and then forgetting which one I was working in.

Then sometimes it just... happens. When I switch tasks, usually. And I just kind of sit here going... Dur? ...until I figure out what I'm supposed to be doing and go do it. It's very confusing. I find that when it happens to me, it can make it very difficult to finish small tasks for a little while. Like, I'll do everything but can't do the last step. Dial a number and not push send, just sit there staring at the phone. Type a post on a forum or my blog and not post it, just either sit there staring at it or close the window. Go to make tea and turn off the kettle before it boils. I keep doing this until my brain smooths out again. It takes anywhere from 5 minutes to a half hour.

It's really frustrating sometimes.

working memory problem?

i find i do this during tasks. i'll lose or forget what i was doing previously.

it can help to return to the last place, etc. to remember what i needed to do.

(e.g. 'gotta remember to find my KEYS and SUNGLASSES before i go out the door...")

When this happens to me I simply add it as another great moment in brain dead history. . . . .I have my own personal history of these that is quiet extensive. .
