Has anyone been through formal assessment??

I dont know whats next, im not being clued in with findings.

if any.

Umm, so I started with checklists 1st through 3rd visits, and thiers always more self rating scales to fill out and take home.

First test I took was the MMPI, then the next visit I took the not x test ... i forget the acronym for it... and today my clinician just asked questions about certain symptoms, perhaps some even rating or finding a co-morbid disorder.. thursday he's asked me to take an IQ assessment or a aptitude tests (i dunno which, but it supposedly takes 3 hours.) but would he have me take this now after about 3 weeks of 2 hour sessions at twice a week... if there wasnt something there neurologically speaking... i guess im frustrated with not knowing the schedule of events.. i'm not asking anyone to share their information that thier not comfortable with, but gosh maybe some insight to all this would be helpful... I do search the forums with these keywords, but turn up very little, and actually like the responses that I get from you guys. Thank you for your thoughts.

Basically, you are going through an information gathering process. The doctor gives you a test, asks some questions, and gives you another test. The doctor is measuring things like memory , ability to stay on task, IQ, and a lot more.

Work with the doctor and take the tests, it takes a while, but it is worth the time and effort to do it right.

At the end of it all the doctor will compile all the test data and will likely issue a formal diagnosis.

good luck

Hi Bram1 -

I believe you are nearing the end of the "testing part" of the process and that you will soon here, "OK - let's make an appt for ______________ to go over the results of the evaluation."

Unless $$$ is part of your stressing about not knowing where you are in the process, I would just go along with the rest of it - as you've come this far already.

Is this person considered an ADHD specialist? I ask this because I saw a psychologist who was considered an "ADHD specialist" - and I went through a similar process with him as the one you are describing. (However, I only met with mine ONE time per week - NOT TWO.)

Hi all! I went through a formal assessment on Monday passed. It took from 9am till 4pm. I saw a psychologist that specializes in treating adult ADHD and other adult disorders.

He took me through a battery of short term memory tests, computer tests where I had to recite number/letters backwards from the order they appeared, creating designs out of coloured blocks on a stop watch, a 1.5 hour interview of my childhood history, work history, sex life, etc etc etc.

He also did intelligence testing, loud reading, memory recall etc. At the end of the day he said without a doubt, I do suffer with adhd and he will have the entire report complete for me in about ten days, then I can take it to my family doctor and we can discuss treatment options.

It was a very stressful, tedious day and I thought I was going to go out of my mind BUT it will be worth it in the end.

The fees were $1200 however my insurance plan actually covers the entire lot of it. YAY!
