View Full Version : My theripist thinks my ADD is axiety, and insomina...
Don't think I spell that right, but this is my second time writeing this, so don't have the patience to fix it :p
Ok, my theripist thinks that I don't really have ADD, that what I have, is Axiety, and Insomina...
Now, ok, sure, there was a LOT of axiety when I was liveing in texas...and I only got 5-6 hours of sleep.
Ok, so maybe he is right there?
but also...
When I read the posts from people I relate to what they are talking about with thier ADD experiences...(read my thread "do any of you feel this hyper, that was a real eye-opener for me) plus outhers, that wasn't the only one..
When I read articles about ADD, and spacial thinking, I kinda read it and go "ahha" that sounds like me.
so, anyway, I might think of more later, but im just gonna throw this out here for now...
Just for the sake of debate, im willing to give my theripist the benifit of the doubt, and consider the fact that maybe he is right about this..
Hope you guys don't think im some kind of "phony" adder...not real add :p
laterz

There's nothing stating that Anxiety and ADD cannot go together. But the key here is the root cause. Is it the anxiety -> [causes] insomnia -> [causes] ADD? Or is it ADD -> [causes] insomnia -> [causes] anxiety [or caused by] <- ADD? Your sleep deprivation here isn't extreme... so I would stay away from the insomnia -> anxiety relationship, unless the relationship is purely psychological (i.e. one is worrying about not falling asleep while trying to do so).

Usually purely anxious individuals wouldn't use the word "hyper" in thinking about themselves, but perhaps "nervous". It has been stated that the "nervousness" is the "hyperactivity" present in the purely/predominantly Inattentive type, but I sometimes question that as well (not to say that it's not ever true)...
ben72227 06-30-07, 01:10 PM You know, sleep deprivation causes a lot of the same symptoms as Inattentive ADD - if you're sleepy, you probably will have trouble focusing, paying attention, etc.
Also, having anxiety could certainly cause the insomnia AND the ADD-like symptoms.
ANOTHER thing that I think is quite common amongst ADDers is that at night (after school or work is over) our brains really get to do what they want to do (hobbies, listen to music, watch t.v. - all of this after a long day of doing boring work) and we have a problem with going to sleep - we don't want to go to sleep and a lot of us are 'night owls'.
The sleep doctors have studied this phenomena quite a bit and over the last few years they have 'created' a new syndrome that they think explains this behavior - Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome (DSPS). This is also called 'teenager sleep'.
(i.e. one is worrying about not falling asleep while trying to do so).
Not really my thing...I don't really find myself WORRYING alot, just, thinking...
This is also called 'teenager sleep'
well, in that case I definetley sleep like the teenager I am...
I mean, there is outher stuff I can't explain either, my doctor tells me that I dissasoiate...I don't know if thats ADD, or axiety realated...(im guessing axiety)
we don't want to go to sleep and a lot of us are 'night owls'
I'm not just a night owl....im a NIGHT PERSON, trust me on this, I have a nintendo DS, and I have "Brain age, train your brain in 15 minutes a day" in this niftey little program it keeps a graph of all my scores on all the mental exersises that have to do with things like, jugement, memory, etc, and I ALWAYS SCORE THE HIGHEST DURING THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT!!!
Not to mention the fact that its 1:29 AM, and I feel more awake NOW, than I have ALL DAY LONG!
I don't want to go to sleep because there is so much to do, AND NOW IS THE TIME TO DO IT, but NOOOOOOOO I have to sleep...bleh....
Usually purely anxious individuals wouldn't use the word "hyper" in thinking about themselves, but perhaps "nervous
Nervous is one of the LAST words I would be willing to use to describe myself in any shape or form HF, it simpley ISN't ME....
Then again....no one else seems me as a hyper individual either...so....
However, mentally hyper, may be a diffrent story, "raceing thoughts" and getting a little excited and jumping up and down in my seat, both thing im fammiliar with.
I always feel these "Hyper spurts" but I always forse myself to CONTAIN them while im at the house, or in the middle of a class....
However, after school, and while hanging with friends, its a WHOLE DIFFRENT STORY...
Crazy~Feet 07-01-07, 03:44 AM Your therapist confuses me more and more all the time, Vhan. If you dissociate, well, that's not really due to insomnia now is it? sheesh...
My theripist has a "hunch" that the more deepley physically relaxed I am, the more "grounded" I will feel, so its really a axiety thing, ya know?
Sorry about confuseing that in my last post :p
