I just finished taking algebra in summer school.

At the community college I go to, it doesn’t matter what our grade in the class is, if we don’t pass the final with a C we don’t pass at all.

I don’t know if I passed the final, we haven’t gotten our grades back yet.
<O:p

BUT I feel like I want to take the class again even if I did pass because I was completely lost through most of the term.

Do you think its crazy for me to take the same class twice if I passed? It would be for my benefit, so that when I go on to the next level I will be ready, right now I don’t think I am.

Summer school 2 starts today, I already signed up, I will go to the first class just incase I did fail.

I just want to know if I am thinking rationally? The class is $213. That’s a lot of money. If I am not required to repeat it am I insane for wanting to?

I don't think you're thinking irrationally, but I think you may be overestimating how hard the class requiring the prerequisite class you may have failed is going to be.

I've taken Math courses that required class A in order to take class B, but the material in class A had little to no relevance to class B.

It's hard to comment since I don't know what class you're taking, but I'd say just go with the flow and don't repeat.

I don't think you are insane for wanting to take the class again, but it is a lot of money if you don't have to.

Would the next level include some review? If it does, you might catch on quicker than you think. Sometimes it takes me a while to grasp something I've learned, then one day it's like a lightbulb came on and suddenly I get it.

Is it possible to start the second level and if you still feel lost, switch to the first level? That might be an idea too.

I wouldn't retake or 'audit' the class - rather, I'd hire a private tutor to sit down with you and go over the things you didn't understand in class.

Is your major very math heavy (CS, Engineering)?
If it is and you are really uncomfortable with the material covered in algebra, go through your notes by your self and review and see how much you retain. You might surprise your self. I have a hard time recalling things out of the blue but if I even just glance at my notes I got it.

If its not math intensive I wouldnt put as much weight on it but still make sure that you can at least kind of get it.

I don't know much about how maths is taught in colleges... for Arts courses which I do one unit is completely independant of the other. If this class is the building block for future courses then maybe it's a good idea. Maybe ask your professor for some advice, he/she might have a better idea of whether it's worth it...

Bumblebee,

Are you on Financial Aid? It will count against your financial amout in the long run, that y ou entitled to for you lifetime.

For instance, when I was at a Community college, and I received a C in an Education class I took it over to understand the material better, what I didnt know is even though there is not anything wrong with taking the class over through the college, but it doubled the amount of credits I had for financial aid befor they told me i SHOULD have a associate degree and forced me to go to University / College.

Associate degree.... you are allowed 98 credits through financial aid.

Bachelor I think it Is 164 or something like that .

Do you feel you have enough knowledge to go on tho the next class? Could you take the next class and feel comfortable seeing tutorer instead of repeateing the class. I would like to see you go forward instead of stay where you are and get ahead.

I got so much feed back. I appreciate that so much because I really took every ones opinion into perspective.

I didnt get my grade back untill yesterday. Its a good thing I took the advice of many of you here because I failed my final. If I hadnt already decided to take the class again no matter what I wouldnt have been able to take it over again this summer because the class started again last monday!

This time I will do much better. I feel like I understand things so much clearer now. What sucks is that I get things the second time around like the other people in my class understand the first time around.
