Does anyone else find that sometimes video games help focus your mind on one thing?
I know I f ind that with certain games (flight simulator, or golf) that I seem to be able to focus my mind a little better.
I was just wondering if it's just me or does anyone else find they can fucus this way?

Little known fact: "Wayward Clam" is synonymous with "World Civilization Champion". :D :D :D

Now THERE'S a black hole that I won't ever get those 500 or so hours back out of...

In short, yes I do find this to be true. However I also find it dangerous to getting focused on anything else in life to begin with. :D

World Civilization, what is that? Is it like Age of Empires or Age of Mythology? I'm on Sims right now. I know, its old. My mom wonders if I am a glutton for punishment, don't I have enough "real" people to take care of.

It's just Civilization, sorry, not World Civilization... I phrased it poorly, I should have said "Civilization Champion of the World".

Hey, I never said it was Communication Champion of the World. :D

Never played AOE or AOM... but I understand it is similar.

I'm guessing you have boycotted on principle anything that comes out of Microsoft?

You know, the funny thing is, my comic strip is anti-Microsoft, I hate Microsoft, and yet it's the only software I ever use for any of my creative endeavors... hehehe...

Civilization comes from Sid Meier, Infogrames, and Firaxis Games. It really is the ONLY video game I play extensively.

AOM and AOE are really fun. I love playing God. I am too chicken to play online though.

wow you guys just hit my biggest weakness right on the head - i'm addicted to Civ II, age of empires, and all the sims games "the sims" is definately the best though... my mom ALSO asks me "why do you want to play life? why don't you just go out and actually live it?!" I have no answer for her becuase I just can't tear myself away....

I left all the cd's at home (my home away from school) so that i could concentrate on schoolwork. it's amazing how much time i can spend on a computer game without even noticing!!

when i was in 11th grade i was addicted to tetris... i beat level 10 (the highest level in my version)! after that though it really wasn't very fun anymore.

I am actually kind of afraid of drinking alchohol too often becuase I know that i have a very addictive personality... my dad is addicted to a game called "heros of might and magic II" it's gotten to the point where he'll stay up all night playing it and sleep the whole next day. my mom has hidden the cd multiple times... my dad actualy found a demo on the internet and played THAT. (the same map over and over and over... seeing how many different ways he could win) it was becoming sort of a destructive force in his life, but it's gotten bettter in the last year fortunately.

I'm starting to dabble in C&C Generals & Zero Hour. Jury is still out on those.

I've always wondered if playing video games has helped me learn how to focus and strategize.. strategizing is a possibility. I think I read an article once claiming that action video games can help adolecents develope better motor co-ordination, but I forgot where I found that.

as far as focus goes, I would have to have a 'control' of myself that has NOT played video games.. and I started on nintendo when I was 7 so I can't tell! But as far as just focusing on a video game, if I like it, I'll hyperfocus on it.

My favs: Nintendo: Zelda, Tetris, CastleQuest (one of the hardest puzzle games ever! Lost the map!) Comp.: Civilizations, Caesar II, Zeus, Magic, Icewind Dale, Black and White (<~~~If you like playing god Flakey this is a game you should check out) Sega CD:Lunar Super NIN: Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana NIN64: Zelda, Castlevania, Jet Force Gemini PS2: Bust A Groove (it's hilarious!), I have the new Castlevania for PS2 but havn't tried it yet, and RPGmaker II and have tried that but it's really complicated (a game that uses the platform to WRITE rpg games). And I like most of the Final Fantasy games. There are others I like too, but I can't remember.

There's also an old computer RPG game (the first I think) using only words and typed commands that is interesting, but I've forgotten the name (anyone know what I'm talking about??)

I'm kind of the opposite. Im 18 I don't really like video games at all. I can't stand console games, except for the origional Mario and Tetris. I have bought a few computer games but usually get bored with them by the 5th level or so, and then feel like i wasked my money so i've stopped buying games completely. now i just play free games like Snood.

I'm a RPG (Role Play Game) fanatic. I own several of the Final Fantasy series & numerous other console games. As for the computer..I love massive multi-player online role play games aka MMORPG. As some of you know, one of my frequent haunts is Runescape. My name on there is Grumblina (families nickname for me when I'm grumpy and grumbling a lot :D ).

I find playing video games is a way to escape and relax for a while. I do not get to go anywhere very often, so I take virtual holidays via video games. And when I'm angry at my ex. I get on Runescape and kill something..lol..not that I would do that in real life, I'm to soft hearted to do that.

all my brothers LOVE runescape.... (the youngest is 8 now, but he started playing it a year or two ago)

SubtleMuttle, i'm not sure if these are technically rpg's or not, but i have some ideas...

Harry's house of horrors?
Kings Quest? (i htink #1-4 are type-in, and 5-8 are clicking)
also one with a jungle... but i can't remember the name

those are my other favorite games, i love the puzzle/exploring type!
