My 6 y.o. DD has been on meds since April. We have tried two different medications and we think that we have the right dosage now. Since the end of school, my daughter has been unable to control her emotions. She has always been a very emotional person. When she was 2, she would throw tantrums that would last 1-2 hours long. We call her our little drama queen because she overreacts to everything, extreme happiness over little things and extreme lows over little things. We also like to call her passionate about the things that she likes.

Over the last 3 days, she has had crying fits over the smallest things. Our neighbor gave my son pirate tattoos and she went into an uncontrollable crying fit because there were no girl tattoos. It is like she can't control the crying. I try and not get frustrated but it is so hard. To me if there is nothing you can do about it then why cry? She is currently on Focalin but DR said after the first medicine that if she couldn't get past the rebound then she would want to try a non-stimulant based medicine. She seems to have gotten passed the rebound. Could this be an affect of the meds?

My question is, has anyone else experienced this? If yes, then what did you do to help with the extreme fluctuations in mood?

Thanks in advance for your help!!!!

The meds could be increasing anxiety. We have seen some of this with my youngest on focalin. Everyone reacts differently and it may be that a non-stimulant would be better, or re-evaluation for posible co-existing issues.
