Hi does any one in the UK seem to being having problem with DR's and schools taking you seriously when it comes to getting a girl diagnosed with ADHD. I have a 7 yr old who i think has adhd, my son has been diagnosed and that was actually really easy to my surprise. i myself had a diagnosis about 18mnths ago and now getting the right treatment. but because my daughter doesnt show the same signals as boys do i feel am hitting my head against a brick wall. i have read so much information that states females are different so why in the UK do doctors / specialists seem to ignore this.
In europe tha same thing is common in many other countries as well. They still think ADHD is more common in boys. I belive itīs only so because boys are more EASY to diagnose!
...Itīs a fact that females are different. But all this information is relatively new to doctors etc. so it takes time for them to accept it. I wish that it would happen faster though! In states they are so far in this matter...in Europe itīs gonna take time. I wonder too why people wonīt accept this as a female disorder too??? :/
It's the same situation in Canada.
Is it? well actually I live in Canada but I donīt know so much about the situation here cause been here only a while...but I would have assumed they know more here...guess they donīt then. Itīs too bad that it has to be like this. :(
unfortunately, some docters and teachers etc have a charcterised view of adhd.
it is increadibly worrying, as so many girls esp those who manage achademically, but may in fact not actually be reaching their potential and who may not be bouncing off the walls, will be slipping through the net.
I have been experiencing a situation not too dissimmilar to your own, its a battle , keep strong in your continued battle to get the help your child needs.
You could get your gp to refer you daughter to a private assesment centre there is one in horsham and another in wales
feel free to pm me if you need other onfo

Oh but even if they are bouncing off the walls and climbing on the furniture may get missed any way and our difficulties dismissed as being the result of poor parenting. It has gotten much better here in the US as compared to when I was a school girl but it still happens.
Girls come in bouncy ADD tooo even though we aren't "supposed to", we are supposed to be inattentive, dreamy, ect. . . . I never did supposed to very well any way so why should my ADHD be any different.
