Are the major HMO's and Health Insurance companies even covering Vyvanse yet? I know it took most of the a long to to cover Straterra and even Ritlalin LA. I'm not even sure if they are even covering them yet either.

I know it took most of the a long to to cover Straterra and even Ritlalin LA. I'm not even sure if they are even covering them yet either. tlv822 08-01-07, 11:19 AM I have Aetna HMO and it is covered. Tara 08-01-07, 02:12 PM Wow, I'm really suprised to hear that. Shire must have really done some pushing to get it covered already. JR1973 09-06-07, 10:29 AM Well since it's on the market as an approved med I don't see why insurance would have any issues. I have Blue Cross and they have a mile-long list of drugs that require preauthorization. Amphetamines are on the list. Methylphenidate meds are not (all including daytrana). Interesting enough, Vyvanse doesn't require preauthorization. JR netsavy006 09-06-07, 10:41 AM Which insurance do you have if you don't mind my asking. I can look it up for you. KitKat 10-08-07, 01:08 PM I have Aetna HMO and it is covered. Will Aetna HMO pay for it for adults since it's only labeled for children so far? Tara 10-08-07, 04:55 PM Blue Cross wouldn't cover Straterra or Ritalin LA for years after they were FDA approved. When I tried questioning them they said it was because they were both too new. It was funny because Concerta was also pretty new too but it was covered. Vyvanse is somewhat like Concerta because it is less likely to be abused. So I bet that's one of the big reasons it's being covered so much already. KitKat 10-09-07, 12:00 AM Will Aetna HMO pay for it for adults since it's only labeled for children so far?I can now answer my own question - yes, they did allow it for adults - all I had to cover was a $20 copay. chinesebob 12-05-07, 09:12 PM It really depends on your plan - My old insurance was aetna hmo but it was 85.00. Since there no alternatives. My new plan aetna epo is only 75.00 - again no alternatives. Now if I buy 3 months at a time via mail order then I can get 3 months worth for 150.00. So if it works in the long run I may try that. That might be an option. asteroidearth 12-07-07, 10:55 AM For the mail order, what company did you use? Does it give you any issue that your over the age it is prescribed for? ackman 12-12-07, 09:35 PM My company has great benefits. I have Medco Prescriptions by Mail, and am able to get a 90 day supply of Vyvanse 70's for $50. Considerably less then what I had paid for the first couple of months at the pharmacy at Safeway. I'm very pleased with the improvements in my life since taking this med. I'm calm... I can focus... I feel good about myself, my life and my world. Life's good! |
