Hey I just started on Dexedrine (after 2 years on Ritalin), and I found that the surges of anxiety I'd get throughout the day are stopped short since I've been on the new medication. Sometimes I feel a little "lovey" in fact and calm. Anyone else had this experience?

well for me I am, more calmer and I find I can think more rationally when taking it...I am on 10 mg twice a day. It also makes me calm enough to try to understand other people and to deal even with the one not so easy to deal with(norms).

When I started taking ritalin 4 days ago, after finally convincing my doctor my inattention was unrelated to my anxieties... I could only decribe it a complete quiteness that over took me. When I was a bit anxious it didnt felt nearly as bad.

However a week later now, and I started doing some more hardcore stuff... I've had a crazy anxiety in two different situations and it left me trying to catch my breath for 4 years after these attacks.

So, I would say it had some odd affects on it but it didn't go away.

Good to hear it has helped you though :D

Have been taking Adderall xr (30Mg) for a little less than a year. The first time I took adderall (10Mg) when I starting out with the this Adult ( 48 years old ) ADD discovery process I felt a calming affect - the anxiety that I live with all the time just went away like magic - and this allows me to understand what "Normal" people are like. At the same time it is scary to realize that the only way I can be without this anxiety is using a drug. I also "know" that the anxiety is not "caused" by personal issues.

Anyone have similar resposes ?

I don't get the anxiety relief I'm after on 10mg of sl dex but I'm still learning and it is definitely better.. but is it as good as I can get. I find my anxiety is still quite high.
Cheers! Ian.. and welcome. < g >

electro, I felt the same way when I started taking Adderall xr 20 mgs. For the first time I was very slowed down. I was able to handle stressful situations without getting uptight or irritable and I was able to relax and not feel rushed for the first time since I can remember. It was so very peaceful. Unfortunately, this went away after about a week or two.

In clinical trials Dexedrine was effective for ADD w/co OCD. OCD is a part of the spectrum of anxiety disorders. Ritalin failed in those same trials. The difference is likely that Ritalin does not increase serotonin to a significant extent. All the stimulants have their good and bad points, but the lack of peripheral over-stimulation (rapid heart rate, shaking, agitation, anxiety, gives dexedrine the superior edge over the rest.

Here's an abstract from med-line..keep in mind that OCD is an axiety disorder.

D-amphetamine in obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Insel TR, Hamilton JA, Guttmacher LB, Murphy DL.

In a double-blind crossover study, single doses of d-amphetamine and placebo were administered to 12 patients with severe chronic obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Improvement of obsessional symptoms was significant on clinical ratings and was correlated with improved performance on an attention task. Changes were also significant for self-rated measures of activation and altered reality. The behavior response to amphetamine was not statistically correlated with subsequent improvement during a 6-week clomipramine trial, although the direction of change was the same during both treatments for every patient studied.
