My daughter, whom I love dearly, but suspect takes after dear old mom a little too much, if you know what I mean? Anyway, she constantly hums and sings quietly to herself until I just about want to scream.

I mean, I'd like to think she is singing because she is happy and what mom wants to stop her child from doing something as innocent and sweet as singing or humming? But.....sometimes I have to just break down and ask her to please sing quietly inside her head...

I swear, it is so draining on me to have that little noise going softly all the time. It just gnaws away at my composure - a major distraction!

Anyone have a similar experience?

My son likes to *clap* his hands to different beats. It drives me insane. I would trade places with your situation in a heartbeat!

Repative noises, usually nonsence words, but even a real word said over and over again will grate. My approach is, "Go do that somewhere else so I don't have to hear it, or stop."

Anyone have a similar experience? Can she carry a tune? If it's a case of Eddy Murphie singing off key, I feel your pain. I love to hum and sing, but have learned to curb it in some situations. I often have to walk down mostly deserted hallways at work and will hum or sing quietly - often the last song I heard on the radio on the way to work if I drive. I used to work with an unmedicated ADHDer with a glorious voice who was always bursting into song. No one complained because it sounded so good. My mom won voice competitions as a child and used to sing as she did housework. I miss that.

Wait. Am I off-topic because I don't have a problem with this? LOL! Sorry if I am. :o

Yes, she can carry a tune, just that the one she carries is so repetitive....

singing lessons? maybe that would fulfill her need to sing...she might start practicing all the time though and I guess that wouldn't be so good.

maybe soundproof room and tell her she can only do it in there when mummy is home.

I'm not sure how practical these things are for you though, just some ideas :P
