I recently got prescribed to Vyvanse 30mg a day. The first 2 days I took it felt like it worked fantastic for about 6 hours or so and then I just felt tired and lethargic. By the 3rd day I felt like it was hardly working at all, and after about 6 hours I would just notice the fatigue effects. It has basically been making me feel like this everyday ever since. Last weekend I went on a surfing trip and decided I could not afford to feel fatigued, so I took 2 in the morning, and I felt great all day long. However the next day I took 2 again and it worked great for a while but after about 6 hours I was feeling very tired again. Since then I have only been taking 1 a day again and it feels like it is doing practically nothing and just leaving me fatigued about 6 hours later. The fatigue isnt as intense as it originally was but its still very bothersome, and I find myself unable to do anything active by the time I get home from work. This especially annoying since I was told this drug was supposed to be affective for 12-14 hours.
I understand that Vyvanse is relatively new but I am returning to college in a week and I need to figure out something thats going to work. Any help is appreciated =) thanks.
Hi sks13, and welcome to the forums.
Sorry to hear that Vyvanse has not been working out as well as you like.
I never took Vyvanse myself, but I can share with you what has worked for me, and maybe it will give you some ideas worth discussing with your Dr. However, I would like to state they we each can, and often do respond to these drugs in our own unique ways.
That being said, I found that for me the drugs Desoxyn, Dexedrine, and Focalin were far superior to any of the other prescription stimulants I tried. Those three were by far had the least side effects, while at the same time offered me the most stimulation and improved focus and attention.
In contrast to those three drugs would be the drugs Adderall, and Ritalin (including all methylphenidate drugs). The side effects I experience from these drugs greatly outweighed the limited benefits that they were able to provide, and in the case of Adderall there was actually no benefit at all, just negative side effects.
Desoxyn and Dexedrine are more often than not used after a person has tried other options, however Focalin if gaining popularity as a first line approach by more and more Dr's it would seem.
If intersted, you go to the Focalin XR website where there is a coupon for a one month free trial that you can print off and take along with you the next time you see your Dr.
I hope that what ever it is that you and your Dr decide to do next works out better for you than the Vyvanse has, and I hope that you keep us posted on what you and your Dr decide to try out next.
Another thing about meds is your body is very good at reducing
something you use continual to near useless in a short amount of time. That varies by substance, person and time interval though.
Perhaps getting to a certain threshold amount that your body can not easily defeat via its homoeostatic mechanisms would be helpful. My own past personal testing with reboxetine, wellbutrin and adrafinil(primarily noradrenaline enhancing drugs) suggest I
might need unpleasantly high doses of stimulants to have any lasting treatment of my inattention. Thats evolution at work protecting us from plant toxins. ;)

I've taken Vyvanse for about 3 weeks now and so far i've gotten much better results than Adderall. I'm taking the Vyvanse 50mg with the free 30 day trial. After the first week though, I would fall off at about 3pm and had to open a capsule and take half of another one. Now i'm pushing 2 50mg capsules a day to keep the effect I need.
On Adderall I never acheived the level of focus, concentration and motivation that i've reached with Vyvanse. Mostly had unpleasant side effects with Adderall (tried combinations of both XR and IR) and was a bit reluctant to try Vyvanse but I don't think i'll take Adderall again after this.
100mg of Vyvanse a day is probably too much. It comes in 30, 50 and 70mg so perhaps a combination of two would do it. My thoughts on the 70mg are that perhaps the benefits would come more strong at once but would not last. I need the benefits to be moderate and noticable but last longer. Maybe a 30mg and a 50mg or maybe another medication with it. I don't know. Going to see my doc tomorrow and that's my main question.
I develop tolerance quickly and take "drug holidays" on weekends. But sometimes my house needs to be cleaned or i've got a project at home and I perform soooo much better when taking the meds. Otherwise i've got low energy and no motivation whatsoever. Also, I procrastinate a LOT. With the Vyvanse i'm a multitasking goddess!!
SKS13, tell your doctor about what you're experiencing on the 30mg and i'm sure together you guys can come up with something that will work. Sometimes its difficult to get just the right combination and then your body develops tolerance.

you might ask your doctor about dexedrine also. I believe it's an instant release in 5mg pills (other mg's in generic brands) and a lot of people supplement their vyvanse with that since it's the same active ingredient.
