(Basic info)
I was recently diagnosed and prescribed Adderall XR 20mg. My doctor instructed twice a day (which is definitely too much), so I only take it in the morning.

(Question)
I don't take it daily. I'm honestly not sure that I have ADHD. I mean, I can function normally(?). But he prescribed it to me so I have tried it. I can function without it, but I have found that it greatly increases my capacity to get work done and focus. On days that I would otherwise not be motivated to do anything (and be responsible), I can get things done and be very productive. It is only days that getting a lot of things done, diligent work and concentration are required that I have taken it (maybe once or twice a week). It is definitely not something I have taken, or will ever take, for recreational use like I know many people do.... My question is, is this bad? I know the negative effects like the potential for addiction, but I typically don't have problems stopping drugs (such as addictive anxiety medicine in the past). But, I don't know if this is dangerous or what to think. So I'm hoping for some feedback from you guys with experience. I would really appreciate it.... This has been bothering me.

It seems to me if you are taking less meds than were prescribed, less often you are not in any danger. If you feel you are functioning ok on the days you aren't taking it, I don't think that is a problem either.

Maybe, but one of my concerns is if I don't have adhd, wouldn't that be abusing it?

The purpose of adderall is to help people with ADD function at a normal level. It is not for those who function normally who merely want to become more productive. Yes, like most medicines it does have side effects and there is a risk of addiction with adderall. It can cause side effects like insomnia, loss of appetite, weight loss, and high blood pressure. It is not wise to take this medicine unless you actually NEED it.

I think maybe that's the response I was looking. THanks.

What sort of Testing have you had that shows you have ADHD?

What scores were bad?

Why do you believe your diagnosis is incorrect? I know sometimes people have a hard time coming to terms with a label like add. That was the feeling I got when I read your first post. That you weren't good at observing your own behavior on a daily basis and therefore didn't think the title add fit you. On low stress days, I don't notice how my add behavior isn't normal because I don't run into as many issues, its still there though.

How did u know you where adhd if ur got perscribed adderall did ur doc do anything? If you dont take it frequently im sure it increases the side effects since ur body does not get use to it. Thats just my 2 cents im not a doctor.
