Im a Marine and im getting deployed to Africa in January and the corpsman said that i cant take my adderall with me when i deploy. How long do you think i should stop taking it befor i get deployed i havent had any withdraws from adderall when i stop taking it. Some feed back would be nice.

I'd expect two weeks for most of it, and about a month in total. It'll be faster if you stop taking it entirely, but given that you have time, I'd recommend slowly reducing your dose gradually. If you're taking XR, you might want to request IR for this, as trying to measure out the XR granules for partial dosing is annoying.

Alternatively, you could talk to a military doctor or something, seems kinda odd they'd prevent a soldier from getting prescribed medication when they're deployed.

you should have zero withdrawals. When taken as prescribed this isn't an issue. Now if you were taking super-duper doses like a meth addict does than yeah you would be in trouble.

Amphetamine clears from the body quickly so actually your body withdraws from it on a daily basis.

Uh, that's not true in my experience (@20mg XR), or in studies at normal therapeutic dosages. There IS a degree of tolerance and dependence. Just like any drug, like caffeine or nicotine. It doesn't matter if you only consume a "moderate" amount of caffeine, you suddenly stop it, you're going to be going through withdrawals beyond the effects of the drug's plasma levels.

There are numerous changes over time due to amphetamine's presence in your brain, such as beta adrenergic receptor desensitization, dopamine D3 receptor downregulation, etc. Even at therapeutic dosages. Those reverse in time, much like how caffeine upregulates adenosine receptors... but it takes time.

Bottomline? You're going to go through withdrawal. And if you don't believe me, feel free to test it with your own experience.

I wouldn't recommend smoking, but the patch/gum/lozenge etc is pretty safe in terms of cancer risk.

ROFL, as if now the Government has a conciounce about amphetamine stimulant drugs in the Armed Forces..... WWII or Vietnam ring a bell????

As for withdrawls, I have not had any withdrawls. Best bet for you is go straight to the source, talk to your Doctor and ask him point blank :) Rather than weed through alot of opinions which you don't have all the facts on.

Stay safe out there!

Amphetamines have liitle to no physical withdrawls. Psycholgically that is another story. Like was said in other response that with such a short half-life, you pretty much experience withdrawls on a nightly basis. As for what Kaotik78 says, I really agree. Mst amphetamine were developed for military purposes by the german's in WWII. Americans used them for a variety of reasons e.g .Pilots. Why the military has an issue with that, I don't know. I would think if it is a legitimate RX and that it makes a positive difference for you, I think it would be to the military's and nations best interest for you to continue taking the medication. That is my two cents. And, Thank you for your dedication to this country.

Hell I've been on Adderall XR for 12 months now (60mg a day) and suddenly quit once I started taking Provigil. I just haven't gotten around to getting back to the doctor for a refill on the Adderall. Zero withdrawals. Nada. Zilch.

Now, try keeping me away from Diet Pepsi for over 1 day. Talk about withdrawals.
