Hi,

I have an appt with a psychiatrist in 2 weeks for my ADD diagnosis. I was wondering if I could be diagnosed and given a script on the very same day.

We have a high deductible so any office visits will cost a lot of money and I'd rather go as little as possible. Before I call the office, I thought I'd try here to see if anyone has advice.

See, I have been diagnosed about 10 years ago. I do not remember the name of the doctor! I don't remember if I took many tests but I do remember that after about an hour of chatting with the doctor, she told me yes, I definitely have ADD. I don't remember having to wait to be prescribed Wellbutrin.

I have since moved to another state and that's why I need to find a new doc in order to get on Strattera (hopefully.)

Should I tell the new doc that I have been previously diagnosed? Do you think he will try to look up the doctor or my other diagnosis? (I don't even know if he is able to do this)

Would that information - even if he can't verify it - help him in speeding up his diagnosis? I am thinking that he needs to follow his own procedures either way.

I really am desperate for this medication and just want the immediate diagnosis. Deep down I know there's nothing I can do except call the office and just ask them.

Do you think if I mention that it is out of pocket until we reach $2500 (our deductible) that they can just speed it up and maybe eliminate any tests and just talk with me in one visit instead?? If not, we just may not be able to afford this and right now I am DESPERATE for medication. I cannot go anymore without help. My family life depends on it.

I would tell the new doctor about you previous diagnosis, I'm not sure about asking the dr to speed up the diagnosis incase he thinks you want the meds for reasons other then what they are prescribed for. Although if you explain your reaons then he may be understanding.

Good luck :)

boone1 is right you don't want appear drug seeking. Explaining the financial end may be more useful. Every doctor is different, which doesn't help when you want to know what to expect. Too bad you can't get your hand on your old records that already have you diagnosed as ADD as that may help speed things up {pardon the pun}
