Has anyone heard of Vyvanse? I looked at the website yesterday. It is suppose to stay in the system for 12 hours. My daughter is currently on Adderal XR 15 mg and by the time she gets home she is extremely defiant. Maybe is it just my parenting but I am having a hard time getting her to do homework or anything else. I thought about conserta but she will not swallow a capsule and I don't think I could get her too. Vyvanse can be put in food like Adderall.
Any imput would be appreciated. Thanks.:)

I take it. For me, it has been the best of the stimulants. Adderall may actually cause defiance. My wife can always tell when I've taken it instead of Vyvanse (when I happen to be out of Vyvanse, for example), and she says it makes me hard to get along with. The fact that you don't have to schedule meals around it or worry about affecting its effectiveness by eating the wrong foods are huge pluses.

My son took Vyvanse 30 mg for 10 days and we had to stop. He was on Adderall XR 20 mg. and was doing well but had rebound at night from it. He told me that he didn't like it and "felt wierd". He felt like voices were far away when he was spoken to and I became very concerned. He felt tired and dizzy as well. He is only 10 and ASKED for his Adderall back. He had NO appetitte (worse than the Adderall) and had a harder time falling asleep (even with Clonodine). I would be willing to try it again if they come out with lower doses.

I just tried Vyvanse for a month and I loved it. I've tried pretty much everything, and Adderall worked really well for me but after taking it for some time I just had more and more peripheral side effects, and I didn't have much personality when I was on it. Less sense of humor, impatient, etc.
So, I was excited when a new med came out, and although all the websites I had seen said they expected a similar side effect profile as Adderall, It seemed to make sense that it would have fewer peripheral effects because it's a prodrug (in addition to having no potential for abuse, which is why they made it I believe).
I loved it. :)
I was happy for a month, and my house was clean, too!
But, although I was originally told that I could get 3 months free from the manufacturer, they were wrong, it was only one month. :(
So, I would definitely recommend trying it, because if it worked as well or almost as well as adderall but had fewer side effects, that would be great. Obviously it won't be the same for everyone as we all metabolize things differently, but for me it had much fewer side effects than the Adderall. Maybe after a couple years Priority Health will get around to putting it ont he formulary.

My son is 15, he began taking Vyvanse (30mg) 4 weeks ago. Shawn has had no side affects with Vyvanse. With his previous medicines, Concerta or Adderall, he was crabby when the medicine was wearing off and he had trouble sleeping. He hasn't had these symptoms with Vyvanse. His grades went from d's and f's to a's and b's, we hope this last; perhaps we've finally found the medicine that works for him. Best of luck finding the medicine that works for you.

my daughter has a dr. appointment today and I was thinking about asking about Vyvanse. she is currently on Adderall 30mg/day but i just feel like it's not working anymore and she is very defiant but that could have something to do with the age. She is 10 going on 18.

I will let you know how it works out for us if they change her.

sorry for the late post. The doctor agreed to let us try Vyvanse. So far so good. They started us on the 72mg, the doc says that should be ok since she was on the highest doseage of Adderall for her age. She eats more and she is not as moody. The only thing I have noticed is that she has a tick with this med. She does this laughing thing, almost like she is excited. I asked her if she realizes she is doing it and she said no. it is kind of strange and annoying at the same time. This medication is suppose to last a full 12 hours, i see it wearing off at about 10 hours with my daughter. Over all though, I have seen positive results. it has only been 6 days, so we'll see how it works out.

We just started Vyvanse with our 7 yo son today. He took the lowest dose, 30 mg, at 6 AM and the dude is still flying high at 7:30 PM.

A little background...

Dude was scripted Strattera in July and honestly, it didn't do a lick of good. Once he started school a few weeks ago he became very withdrawn, couldn't focus enough to do class work, and wouldn't participate in class discussions. I had to change my work schedule to meet with the teacher every day this week at 3 PM to discuss his behavior (he isn't hyperactive; he'd just play with his sharpener, stare off into space, etc) and pick up any schoolwork that needed completion.

Today Miss D, the teacher, said he was on task for the most part. He finished copying down the homework by 9:30, did most of the math work, and actively participated in class. Awesome!

While in the classroom I picked up a reader that was on his desk, "The Fox and the Crow." When we got home we went upstairs (I needed a nap!) and he willingly, without prompting, read the entire book to me. Whoa! Then he focused hardcore on creating a new Pokemon.

I'm thinking we might have to halve the dose for regular schooldays so the boy can get some sleep. He's usually in bed by 8 PM.

He says he's feeling great with no nausea or headaches. The only odd thing he's doing (and he brought it up to us) is this weird jaw wiggling back and forth. I told Mr. KP to pick up some sugar-free gum while at the store. I hope it'll alleviate some of the weirdness Dude's feeling.

Oh, Dude's also on 10 mg Prozac for anxiety and trich but that's a different thread...

A follow-up...

Little Dude woke bright and early Saturday morning...ugh! It was as though the Vyvanse was still working! He went to bed at 10PM and woke at 6:30, raring to go.

Per the drug insert, Vyvanse can be disolved in water. I broke the capsule open and gave Dude about 2/3s of the drug. Mr. KP said he didn't notice Dude doing the jaw waggling like the day before. I gave him the same amount this morning; we'll see how he does at Sunday School.

Dude did complain about a headache last night before bed. We gave him some motrin. Plus his stomach hurt (but that was due to a crappy dinner, not the meds).

We're seeing a slight difference in his behavior for the good. He's taking initiative to clear his plates, feed the cats, etc, without us constantly repeating ourselves.

Heh. He's just asked to watch "Airplane!" I love this movie!

I took Vyvanese 30 mg for the first time yesterday and it feels about the same as Adderall 10 mg IR.

It took about 2 hours before I felt anything. Then I felt high for about 2 hours and then level for an hour. After that real depressed for two hours and then paranoid. Same thing happens with Adderall except the high doesnt last two hours (about 15 minutes). I really couldn't do anything feeling a high that long it was a little annoying.

I am sick with allergies today, so I will try it again tomorrow and hope I don't feel high that long so I can complete something.

Kitten Poker,

My son started Vyvanse a week ago. He was taking Adderall before that. He started doing that same jaw thing on the Adderall. He is still doing that on the Vyvanse. I was not sure if it was just coincidence or a tic? Is your son still doing it? The Vyvanse is working for us too. Really well. But, the jaw thing is really weird. I don't want him to keep doing that. He had the irritablity and moodiness
with other meds. Not with this med! It seems to last until about 8 and he does stay up a little later??

Brandye, the jaw thing has stopped (thank goodness!). I did buy a 8 pack of sugar-free bubble gum in case he need to chew. It only lasted about 2 days. You might try gum or hard candies to help with the jaw thing.

Little Dude's bedtime before meds was 7:30-8:00 and he fell right asleep. We've bumped the time up to 8:30 because he's just not ready to wind down. He's still getting up at 5:45 AM with little hassle (we have tunnels to drive through and traffic's a bear).

Watch your son's appetite. Dude's appetite has been rotten and this is a kid that, if given a chance, will eat an entire box of macaroni and cheese in one sitting. I made certain with his morning daycare provider that he's eating breakfast before school. He's not fat or skinny so I'm carefully watching his intake so he doesn't inadvertently starve himself.

I have been taking Vyvanse for two weeks and am very happy. It is very smooth from beginning to end. It does take about 1 1/2 hrs to really kick in, so I just need to adjust my timing. Prior to Vyvanse, I have tried every other drug with Adderall XR being the most effective. Adderall has an incredible "lock-in" effect when the dose is right, but I experienced many side effects that I wasn't real fond of when it started wearing off.
I'm trying to get my Vyvanse dose right. I started with 30 mg, but I think it is best at about 50 mg for me. I was on 50 mg. of Adderall XR.
So far so good as far as I'm concerned.

I've started Vyvance today. I was told to play around with my dosage to find the right one. My Dr. gave me 30mg caps and said to try 1 (30mg), 2 (60mg), and 3 (90mg) and see how I do. Today I went ahead and started in the middle by taking 2 since I was taking 30-45mgs of Focalin XR.

I took it around 8:30 and felt it start to kick in about an hour later. I did have extreme focus ability to get work done, but I also had housework to do that I had to pull myself away from the computer to do (I work at home as a graphic designer so I work on the computer all day). So I was basically feeling like I was in Hyper-Focus mode. Which right now is good for me since I haven't been able to get motivated to do squat!

I've had a case of dry-mouth but that's a side effect I can live with. One thing I hope will change given some time is I feel like I want to be left alone and not very talkative. I'm not in a bad mood, more like a calm natured mood that I just want to keep to myself. About 4 I began to feel a slight headache come on, and so I took some Advil and it's gone. It's now 6:43 and I am still feeling the effects. Not so much with the dry mouth anymore.

We'll see how it goes tomorrow...

Can you take half of the capsule? My doctor wants to prescribe it to my four year old son. I understand that he's quite young for this drug?

Does anyone else have a child this young on the drug?

Hello everyone,

My son who is 13y/o had to have his meds switched because they simply just stopped working. He was on 54mg of Concerta for 2 years and previously had taken concerta 36mg for about 4 years. Concerta worked for him , but he really never liked the side effects, he tolerated them though because he could focus and participate in school much better. We thought that Vyvanse was a good choice for him, unfortunately on day 2 he had horrible side effects. His blood pressure was way down while is heart rate was too high , he also started to get muscle twitching in 10 sec. intervals which he had never expirienced before , he said he felt wierd and uneasy, this lasted through the whole day , he also had intense stomach pain. The school nurse called and said she was very concerned and thought a visit to the ER might be in order. I talked to our family doctor who told us to ride it out and discontinue the Vyvanse. As a parent this was very scary for me , so much so that I am seeking Homeopathic remedies as an alternitive. If anyone has tried any alternitive meds , Please let me know.
