Just curious, what would be some signs of your adderall dose being too high?

okay, so I was taking 10 mg ir x2 daily, but Doctor told me to experiment before I switched to XR. So I settled that 25mg of IR did the trick. So now I have 25 mg of XR. Not cool.

I feel distracted, and jumpy. I am making a ton of typos at work. When I am at work I don't want to work. When I get home I just want to lay on the couch and watch TV, and I just don't like it. I don't like how I feel right now. I don't know if PMS has anything to do with it, but I'm not a happy girl at this moment. I feel medicated. I feel it and I don't like it. But I can't remember how I felt the first day of the IR, I know I didn't like it at first either. Could the IR & XR be that different?

I don't know if it's the dose or the XR. Everything was perfect on IR except that I would forget to take a second dose, take it late or not at all, get cranky when it wore off in the middle of the day. But even at 10 x2 daily I was focused and very much into my work and home.

Then I stopped the 25mg XR and felt like total crap for 3 days. So I started again, and it's not quite right. Not the same.

why would i be bugging out 12 hours after taking the pill? I would assume it would be worn off by now. So random.

why did you switch to XR, if you don't mind my asking?

Not everyone who takes IR get's the same med response on XR and vice versa; at least that's what my doc told me.

Because I do so well with IR, I opted to not take XR because I didn't want to worry about the switch.

It's very possible your dose is too high. You took it for 3 days (25 XR??)

I wish I could help more .. .. perhaps someone who is more knowledgable will post.

I appreciate the reply. I wanted to switch to XR because I don't want "flexibility" as my doctor put it. I want 1 pill, once a day. I take too many other meds to worry about taking a pill at noon. my job is nuts and I barely get a granola bar in at lunch, much less time to take a pill. I get super irritable in the afternoon if I forget to take it,then if I take it too late, I can't sleep. I also don't want flexibility to take more or less. I don't like that. I just want to follow directions. I'm too paranoid about "flexibility."

Doc said okay, fine. I said 25mg xr, so that is what he prescribed. I liked it much better when I couldn't "feel" it, it just worked. I am thinking/hoping he will drop it to 20mg xr.

between mood stabelizers, anti anxiety meds, sleeping meds, adderall, vitamins, birth control, and iron & calcium supplements, I'm looking to streamline, so that is why xr was more attractive. I notice that the effect is smoother (less up and down) but it just seems weird. too intense.

I took it for 4 days, then off for 3, then again today.

I took (by doctor's orders) some of my son's left over Adderal XR 10mg twice a day and they seemed to work really well for me. Right now I am on IR 5mg 3 times a day and I feel a bit too anxious and the coming down stuff is not very nice (headache, irritable, foggy brain). It also seems to bother my stomach more. I am hoping to get back on the Adderal XR if I can afford it. $200 a month, yikes!!! (I think my insurance should kick in and cover a big part of it though.)

Starting and stopping these medications (intermittent dosing) is known to increase your sensitivity/response to the medication. That could be one contributing factor.

Also, yes, XR can be 'different' for some folks, especially if you were taking generic IR before. I'd ask your doctor about it, maybe he'll let you pour some of the beads out of the capsule so you get a lower dose for a while ..? Hard to get an accurate dose like that though.

I wish I could help but I was wondering the same thing. Some days I feel like the dose is too high and I dont like the way it is affecting me, and other days I feel like it is too low and isnt doing anything for me! Right now I am exploring cutting back to prn, but I have to look into it more.

Sorry I was no help, I was hoping to find some answers in this thread too, hehe.

definitely talk w/ your doc about 20mgs XR, that just might be the perfect dose for you :) (especially since 20mgs XR = 2 X 10mgs IR - (10 mgs released 2 separate times))
