Ok so I was taking adderall xr 15mg once or twice a day, sometimes three depending on school/work. Anyways it works great I feel great more focused ext.. the only downfall was the fact that when I took a 15mg xr it would only last 3-4 hours then wear off, My normal family doctor that I have been seeing since a kid said to take 1 or 2 xr's "Was just diagnosed with add 19 y/o" explained I was going to college this fall, anyways she was on vacation this week and I schedulled a appointment with another doctor there, Im hesitent to ask for or ask to try anything else do the fact there's people who abuse the substance, Anyways so the new doctor prescribed Metadate I explained that the adderall was great and asked about the fast acting, she didn't say anything besides "ohh that will prolly only last 30 minutes for you" I then thought I was only taking the 15mg wouldn't bumping it up to 20mg or 25mg work a bit better/longer? Anyways I took the Metadate and within a hour driving down the road was getting irratable at about anything, "normally layed back" then I had a stomach ache, So I tried it again the next day and same thing, I called them 2 days later and said that this med is no good for me, My normaly doctor said strattera didn't work that well with adult patients and I have read so, So the other doc tells me to try strattera 40mg and 60mg, I stressed I didn't really want to try this, I rather just got back to the adderall xr, so they basically said the adderall xr wasn't working that I needed to try strattera, I take strattera today and really feel nothing, nothing like the adderall xr... pointless, When my family doctor gets back from vaca im going to set up a appointment with her, I am going to be ****ed if they try to recommend some other medication.

My question is should I just stop bothering with them and go to a differnt clinic? What about the Adderall IR is there a reason when I asked about that she just said no. It's really a hastle to drive 2 hours out of my way. If I go to a new clinic do I just need my diagnostic papers and tell a differn't doctor what I need?

Howdy Golfing!

Okay here is my input.

Before you switch clinics all together, make an appointment with your usual doctor. Explain what you have been through since she was on vacation and all the medication changes. Be honest, just say "hey, the XR is wearing off too quickly and I feel the IR may be a better choice." I know a lot of people have no luck with the XR or it wearing off too quickly. And a lot of different things can lessen the absorption of XR such as OJ, acids, etc.

As far as why the other doctor wouldn't prescribe the IR tablets...I am not sure on this one. Sometimes doctor's prefer to prescribe the extended release as it is less likely to be "abused."

I am personally on the IR tablets. I am prescribed 40 mg. I take 20 mg twice a day. But on some days, I only take 20. I can break the tablets in 2. Not to mention my Insurance won't cover brand name....so the IR has generic.

So before you switch docs all together....go to your usual family doctor. Also, have you ever considered consulting with a psychiatrist? That is who I see about my ADHD & meds.

Hope this was somewhat helpful!

Easy way to get of Strattera? Tell them you're having erectile disfunction, urinary flow problems, and it's making you feel depressed. Basically - tell them that antidepressants aren't for you.

Once a doctor hears that - they usually pull the plug. Tell them you want what works (i.e. amphetamine/Adderall) in this case.
