I am a college student and prior to the summer I was diagnosed with ADD and was prescribed 2 10mg Adderall xr's daily. I am aware that we build up tolerance to amphetamines in our bodies, so over the summer I used the adderall very sparingly in order to use it when the school year started and get the most out of it. I have been taking it daily for about 10 days now. The obvious observation is that it helps with attention spand and allows me to actually focus in class and on homework. I also noticed not only from my own observations, but from those around me that it helps me with my behavior. I have always been and extremely impatient, and irritable person, sometimes just outright mean for reasons that I dont understand. My behavior while on it is calmer, I am not nearly as impulsive. Not to say that it is the magic bullet, but it feels like it gives me the ability to controll my behavior if I choose to, while in the past it seemed like I didnt even have the choice. While I have been prescribed to take it daily, I am the type of person that is annal about my health and do not like the thought that a drug is helping to shape my personality. Does anyone have any insight or stories that could help me to decide wether or not to start taking it daily or during the week.

The personality part you describe, lost, is the ADHD part. ADHDers are impulsive, so it's not necessarily a part of your personality- it's a part of the ADHD.

When I was in school I took my med (adderall) everyday, because my main ADHD issue is short attending, therefore I have difficulty understanding and learning things.Taking Adderall helped me attend - so I could learn.

Once I graduated, I kept on taking Adderall daily, with the exception of weekends (now that i didn't need to study). Please know that all the decisions I have made - my doc has also backed me up and is aware of it all.

As i slightly changed my career path I find that I dont' take Adderall as much. My job is very active and the kids i work with have a shorter attention span than me. I found that my ADHD works great w/ my job. So, now the only time I take Adderall is when I am in meetings or seminars (so I can pay attention).

I hope my story helped you. Just please remember to talk with your doc about the decisions you want to make.
