Are there any differences between Vyvanse and Adderall that would give each a different effects. I know Vyvanse to be a pro-drug, but I gather there are other key differences.

I know Vyvanse to be a pro-drug, but I gather there are other key differences. jbc3333 09-05-07, 01:12 PM I got this off of wikapedia so i dont no how accurate it is....I do no it doesnt have the L amp like adderall but it does have the D amp (dexadrine)..... Dextroamphetamine is also the metabolite (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metabolite) of the prodrug (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prodrug) lisdexamfetamine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lisdexamfetamine) dimesylate (pharmaceutical name: Vyvanse). Vyvanse is meant to provide once-a-day dosing because it regulates a slow release of dextroamphetamine into the brain. Vyvanse is available as capsules (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capsules), in three strengths: 30 mg, 50 mg, and 70 mg. A 30mg-strength Vyvanse capsule is molecularly equivalent to 8.88mg dextroamphetamine. However, this molecular equivalence would only hold true as a bioequivalence (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bioequivalence) ratio if: the dimesylate salt instantly dissolved resulting in the complete dissociation of lisdexamfetamine ions, and then the covalent amide bond of every lisdexamfetamine molecule immediately underwent hydrolysis. In fact, being a prodrug, lisdexamfetamine has different properties than dextroamphetamine; for instance, lisdexamfetamine is metabolised in the gastrointestinal tract, while dextroamphetamine's metabolism is hepatic.[1 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dextroamphetamine#_note-0) parshmar 09-05-07, 11:42 PM I've taken both and there is a noticeable difference for me. Low doses of Adderall makes me sleepy. On higher doses, I feel very jittery and nervous. I also feel a lot of ups and downs on adderall xr, and it doesn't last very long for me. With Vyvanse, it's very smooth. I sometimes forget i've taken it until I notice myself getting things done or being in a better mood. It lasts a long time for me, 8-10 hours but the last few hours are not nearly as effective as the first 6 or so. I greatly prefer Vyvanse over Adderall xr, but that's just me. |
