My daughter, 10 yo, is on Adderall XR 30mg. has been for almost two years. At first Adderall worked great for her, now it almost seems like it doesn't. Is it possible that her body has become use to this drug and is not getting the full affects as she did in the beginning? Maybe it is the age, but she is very defiant, moody and not able to focus on homework, chores etc. She rolls around on the ground, legs up in the air making crazy noises. It's almost like we are back to square one again. Has anyone else experienced this with their meds? We have tried so many different stimulants and Adderall seemed to work the best. now I dont know what to do.

From what I am seeing, it may be possible that her age and growing may have a factor into the lower effect of the drug. It may be time to either increase the dosage further or switch to another drug. There is a new drug called Vyvanse, which is a form of Adderall XR that provides more consistant dosing. I can't seem to find any information on how Vyvanse works in comparason to Adderall XR, but based on the text of the site I'm assuming it uses the innovated OROS technology. (Here's a vid on OROS: http://www.invega.com/invega/erd.html)

thanks so much for responding. We have a doctors appointment today and I am going to talk to him about this. I think she is at the highest dosage she can be on for a child on Adderall. She is on 30mg/day. I will ask about the Vyvanse as well. and let you know our outcome. thanks so much for your input.

So sorry I never read this sooner. My son has experienced this with every drug that he has tried! Well, not the ones that had to bad of side effects, but the ones that seemed to work, and then after going for a month or so, upping the dose to the point of it being as high as he could take, then we would switch. He started his meds at age 11 and he is going on 13 in a week, I had asked a similar question as well, it is very frustrating. I was told it could be the age as well. Let me know what your dr. said.
Thanks

The doc did say puberty may have something to do with it. They are growing and changing alot at that age. He switched us to Vyvanse 75mg, but it was giving her a tic so he lowered the dose to 50mg along with guafanine in the morning and at night. So far so good. I am still having issues with attitude and behavior issues, but that's a different story. there have been less side effects with the Vyvanse. They say it last 12 hours, but i am getting about 10 hours. Same as Adderall.
