Let me add a brief history, and why I asked this question. My son was diagnosed 3 yrs ago with ADHD. He is mostly ADD, but does have some hyper activity during times that require stillness. For example during the pysch test he ran around the room after the test, even though he had to climb over the couch to make the laps.
He was place on ritalin XR, but after a year I pulled him off. The teacher's weekly behavior report didn't change, and he was beginning to sleep 2 hours at a time, extreme weightloss, and when I gave him a dose one weekend he couldn't stop moving. I felt so sorry for him that day, just like the ADD zombie was not my child the medicated Zach was not the same.
Last week we started him again on Meds, with some behavior modification, and nutritional modifications. This year it's Metadate CD 10 mg. The day he started at school I sent a note to the teacher with a behavior questionare. She never filled it out, but in the weekly progress reports she noted that he is starting to finish more work during the day, with a few it's still not the best. The peditrician said that probably 20mg was the right dose, but don't exceed 30 mg.
It's now the 2nd week. He's been on 10mg for 1 week. I can see an improvement in his confidence, and he brings home work that was supposed to be finished in class, but he doesn't feel any stigma about it. Leave it at 10 or for now or bump it to 20?
BTW, I have a 1 month follow up with the DR on the 24th.
