View Full Version : Help! Adderall side effects, very very painful please suggest a solution
Darkstar01 09-07-07, 07:09 PM I've been taking Adderall 4hr release 10mg for almost 2 weeks but now I have the worst case of cotton mouth, its so bad that I have a white-sore like opening/sore on my bottom lip inside my mouth.. If it gets any worse it'll be
into the muscle of my bottom lip. It sucks!:(
Q. What can I do to make the sore heal faster?
Q. Should I seek medical attention?
Q. Are there other ADHD meds that can help with impulsivity that won't give me dry mouth from hell? (I also take Wellbutrin 450mg and Strattera 100mg and they only gave me a metallic taste in my mouth which I can deal with, but i'm not sure I can deal with painful mouth sores.)
Q. Please please please help me come up with a solution, I don't know what to do, I know this stuff works, makes me ALOT less impulsive, but the side effects are so bad I'm not sure I can deal with them, what do you guys think?:faint:
Ok, well thank you ahead of time for any assistance you guys/gals can offer.
livinginchaos 09-07-07, 07:47 PM your sore could be just because your mouth is dry and you're not drinking enough water. The dry mouth side effect will go away. I think it took about 3-4 weeks for me. Just drink tons and tons of water in the time being; it might help the sore heal, also.
If you're concerned about this sore then go to your (general) doctor.
Again, if Adderall is working for you (other than the dry mouth) you might want to stick it out a bit longer because that side effect will go away.
I tend to bite the inside of my lip and when it gets bad and hurts I put an oral anesthetic on it (oragel), which also protects it and keeps me from biting it more. You could always give that a whirl.
Welcome to ADDF, darkstar!
Darkstar01 09-07-07, 07:56 PM Great idea, thank you, i'll put some oragel on as soon as I get home from work.. I have some because of a tooth ache I had, so that's good timing.
Uggh so really how many bottles of water should I be drinking? I'm at like 3 or 4 now... and like 2 sodas (Pepsi one with splenda.. yum)
livinginchaos 09-07-07, 08:10 PM how many oz are the bottles??
There really isn't a specific number, i'd just make sure you're drinking more than 64 oz of water a day (that's the recommended amount). Also, be aware that drinking caffiene makes people thirsty.
When I first started on Adderall I always had water with me where ever I went. Actually, I continue to do this because drinking water is so important for a body.
oedipa.maas 09-07-07, 08:57 PM To second livinginchaos's comment re: caffeine...
I found that I had to give up my decades-long Diet Coke habit after starting Adderall. It really did make for killer dry-mouth-- and, for me, exacerbated Adderall's side effects-- especially when I was trying Wellbutrin too. On the upside, phasing out pop (er, soda) and coffee seems to be very good for my dental health.
So far the best substitute for pop/soda I've found has been Poland Spring Sparkling Water, it comes in a couple flavors. A lot of the flavored waters have citric acid, apparently, but this one doesn't seem to. I'm sure there are others as well, especially if you look in "natural foods"-oriented stores.

Darkstar01 09-12-07, 10:34 PM Your lucky, I Can't take Adderall, it has to severe of dry mouth for me.. I have to stick to Strattera and Wellbutrin.
Darkstar01 09-12-07, 10:38 PM Actually I still have a sore in my mouth from the Adderall, this is the first week off it, side effects are slowly subsiding. I guess its not good for everyone
Chromatic 09-13-07, 06:41 AM I had pretty bad dry mouth when I first went on it. It was real bad for about a month then improved, but never went away.
Always have a bottle of water with you and chew gum. Gum with the a sip of water every 10-30 minutes or so was the perfect combo to fight it.
If the side effects are actually causing you pain and becoming unbearable, call your Doctor and talk about stopping it for a time being.

Yes I think the (Adderall) caused me to have some sort of hypertension, While umm enjoying myself during a quiet evening with my fiance' She was close to "it" and I had to stop due to how fast my heart was racing.. I was worried it was going to fast and I had to stop, she was very disapointed, but also afraid for me.
10 days later....
And my heart rate was like 147/99/109 this week but I do have a tooth infection and Bronchitis right now so that can contribute to the issues of hypertension.
13 days later.....
My Heart rate and blood pressure are almost back to their normal selves so it doesn't seem to have been permanent at at..
Normal is 120/83/104(resting) current is 122/83/106, I'm guessing once its totally out of my system my BP will return to normal.
Oh.. my fiance (who is a CNA) noticed I had small bumps(circles?) inside my mouth besides the drymouth which were signs of allergic or mild anaphalaxsis.
Which is one of the reasons why I originally stopped taking it, plus she said it was making me agitated easily? and aggressive.
So I think it's best that I just be happy with the benefits I have from Strattera 100mg, I am however going to take care of my OCD issues as well, (but thats not for me to discuss in this forum) but I hear Prozac has a low side effect profile compared to other SSRI's and also helps with ADD/ADHD impulse issues which is what im struggling with.. Seriously poor impulse control prior to use of Strattera, which isn't half bad post Strattera...:eyebrow:
Any suggestions for future Stimulants to try that aren't quite so stimulating?
Some one told me Remeron could help ADHD? Someone told me he was taking that for ADD/ADHD?:)
