Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum. I was recently diagnosed with ADHD after pretty much knowing I've always had it (I'm 28). I decided to go to the Dr. for some help with it since I'm in grad school full time and work full time. My brain sort of shut down & finally said "enough" about the middle of my first semester back.

I started on Adderall last month (10 mg) and it wasn't helping too much by the end of the month, so my Dr. increased me to 10 mg twice a day, which seems to be working better. However, when I went to the pharmacy to get my prescription filled, my insurance will only cover 34 pills a month (he prescribed 60). They said they would call my Dr. to see if he could override the insurance, but I haven't heard anything back.

My question to you guys is - has anyone had experience with this? What did you do? I know I'm fortunate that insurance covers any of it, but preferably they would cover the whole amount. He almost put me on 20 mg once a day, but this medicine seems to wear off very quickly for me, and I have very long days with work & school & recreational activities (dancing), so I think twice a day would be better. Any thoughts? Thanks so much everyone!

My doc's bumped my doseage a number of times now. Got at least two scripts filled w/ in 3 weeks or so of the last. Pharmacist just called the insurance company, no issues...I have highmark BCBS...

That happened to me with Lunesta, I would need the doctor to OK the prescription so I just stopped taking it. If they are IR tablets you can have the doctor write a 'script for the 20mg dosage and then split the tablets in half.

are you taking IR or XR? Adderall IR is tablets and only last 3-4 hours. Adderall XR is capsules and are supposed to last 12 hours, but i think they only last around 6 hours.

You can contact your pharmacy and ask if they found out if they can override that, otherwise, do what netsavy suggested and ask your doc to prescribe 20mgs, to be split in 1/2. Although, that would be a pain.

Thanks for y'all's replies. I'm on XR, I'm sorry I didn't clarify that. For some reason they seem to only last about 3-4 hours for me though. I think the pharmacist is trying to get my Dr. to fill out some forms to override, so I guess I just have to be patient. Has anyone tried the new one, Vyvanase (sp?) that's supposed to last longer? I haven't seen a ton about it in the forums, but maybe I missed some postings. :)
