View Full Version : Less Omega-3 more AD/HD?

I heard once (a theory mind you) that since all the food is now regulated and we are not living off the land like we used to, the natural Omega 3 in foods is not supplied in chicken and livestock like it once was. Fish is full of Omega 3, but we as a people don't eat as much as this as we used to.

Could this be the reason we are increasing in numbers?

I ate tons of fish while I was pregnant with my daughter, and she doesn't have ADD. But before, while pregnant with my son, the smell of fish made me gag. He does have ADD. I have always wondered about this... Is Omega 3 safe to take while pregnant?

To counter this question: My mother always put cod liver oil in my formula when she stopped breast feeding me. I still had AD/HD and of course... Still do. Does cod liver oil have the Omega 3?

Actually other people have made that connection too. It also ties in with Thom Hartmann's Hunter Theory. There's a great article I read a few month ago about it but I can't seem to locate it... :(

I read somewhere that eggs bought 30 years ago had 3 times as much omega-3 as they do now. Just think how many food products eggs are in.

The do sell organic eggs with more omega-3 but they are very expensive.

I think it's the high levels of mercury that you have to stay away from when you're pregnant?

The Omega-3 fatty acids are found in foods that we don't eat a lot anymore, like flaxseed, cold-water fish, etc.

I take 5 grams (5 capsules) of the GNC fish oil capsules every day. If I don't take it for about a week, I notice a huge difference in my mood, energy levels, and ability to focus.

If you decide to take it, take it at night. It can mess up your stomach and give you "fish burps!"

Thankyou! I'm glad I'm not alone! I just started taking O-3 fish oil for brain and to lower cholesterol. I HATE smelling like I just ate a sloppy salmon for an hour after taking it! I'll try it at night.

Finally it all is begnning to come together...

I had never thought of Dr. Seuss as a nutrinional expert - Silly Me!
When I think about it, "eggs bought 30 years ago" must be green...

Although I would think they might cause worse breath than fish...
What? You think I'm not serious? Pshaw...

I've read good things about Omega-3...
...but my personal testing was inconclusive.
There are different levels of ADD
I've read boys/men are much more prone to AAD than girls/women
 Yes, I realize I am addressing both of these comments to girls/women!

I have been taking Omega-3 for about a month, but only 1 capsule a day.
I haven't noticed much change, but I'll try to up the dose.

Another thing that doesn't occur in our food anymore is minerals.
Plants can make vitamins, but they cannot make minerals.
The minerals need to be in the soil for the plant to absorb it.
So, you may think Broccolli has more Iron, but really, it is just better at absorbing Iron. But, if there is no Iron in the soil, the Broccolli will have no Iron.
Most US farms have been using the same fields for decades. There are little to no nutrients in the soil anymore.
The only things the farmers add to the soil are the nutrients that make the plant bigger, not healthier. (like nitrogen and phosphorus)
