hi, a question, anyone know anything about taking these two together?

I was depressed before and lexapro worked well for me. But, now I am not depressed, but midly moody. I want to prevent a relapse by taking st. john's. I have never been on it. Anyone else taken ritalin and st. john together?

thanks for sharing.

The link below points to a thread with a link to lots of information about St John's wort. You should probably talk to your doctor before taking it.

thanks! There was not information about ritalin, but I might ask my doctor about it when I see her. I am sure it is a good idea though.

This is really a late addition, but my doctor cautioned me against st. john's because it can interfere with ritalin.

she has me on effexor instead. i know, i know. all that bad side effects once goign off, but she and I will be able to manage it.

I've read that St John's wort is similar to an SSRI. It's a pretty good antidepressant for mild depression but it does decrease attention a bit (SSRI's do that too).

yes, it is. And, generally effective for mild depression. The issue is interference with other medication.

effeexor is, apparently, the third choice for treating add, off-label. she told me that it should not decrease attention and does not interact with ritalin.

Im using st johns worth and ritalin for a couple of days now. Had no adverse effects yet, instead it helps for the ritalin side effects; moodswings, irritibility,

I researched the possible interactions a bit and posted my findings in this thread; http://www.addforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=46771
