I was prescribed Vyvanayse instead of Adderall today. I don't understand if it "IS" a stimulant or if it "ISN'T" one?
Has anyone taken this and if so do you get the same effects as Adderall. Because when I was on Strattera it didn't work.
Thanks

Vyvanse is closer to dexedrine, I had the trial of it recently and 210 mg of it was worthless

On Vyvanse's website they call it "The first pro-drug stimulant", so I'm guessing it is. However there are medications that are not stimulants that you can try. Some I know off the top of my head are: Strattera, Wellbutrin, Cymbalta, and Effexor XR.

Vyvanse is in fact a stimulant. Basically, it is dextroamphetamine with L-lysine molecules attached to each amphetamine molecule, hence the drug's name "lisdexamfetamine". The medication's release mechanism is natural, as it's release is mediated by absorption (being slowed due to the L-lysine).
The L-lysine is attached to make the medication more abuse resistant, as the drug is not "active" until it is converted into actual dextroamphetamine.
As you may have guessed, Vyvanse is actually more like Dexedrine than Adderall. As to whether or not it is more or less effective, that will depend on the person taking it.

I take L-lysine for my canker sores. I usually take high doses of it to rid myself of them because that's the only way it will help, unless I take it on a daily basis to prevent them. I have to ask my doctor about this????
Thanks for the info!
